Champs Elysees - Tour De France gutter that the riders hurtle along at around 50kph.

Had a good look at this gutter where the pros bomb through on the tour - not for the faint of heart - me included.

You can get a similar experience riding up the Royal Mile from Bridges to Geo IV.

(Or in Duddingston village just before the park.)

The setts on the Champs Elysée are in a tad better condition than e.g. George Square. On the way back from a cycling holiday on the west of France I took my bike round Paris - nowhere near as worrying as I expected.

@EddieD I've said on here before that Paris feels very safe to cycle in. The Armagnac may have helped, but I suspect the key thing is the general (perceived) chaotic nature of driving in places like Place de la Concorde and L'Etoile means that drivers know they have to pay attention and so they stay alert.

The Velib obviously help too, as there are loads more cyclists on the roads as a result.

Those setts look beautiful. Have a shot at Thirlestane Road sometime...hellish even on a MTB !
