Human Power Team - Delft & Amsterdam

    Well done to them.

"Sebastiaan Bowier reached 133,78 km/h in the high-tech recumbent from students of the Delft University of Technology and the VU University Amsterdam. With this speed, he broke the world record and became the fastest cyclist on the planet. It was 0,6 km/h faster than the previous record, set by the Canadian Sam Wittigham. Team manager Wouter Lion elated: “We knew that the technical and the human aspect of the race were right today. We knew it was possible and it is amazing that is actually happens. And he did it with difficult head wind.”

”It is not only thanks to the students and the cyclists, but also thanks to the companies that helped us, such as our main sponsor Post NL. They have supported us from the start of the very first team to show that the Netherlands really loves their bicycles. That is something we can be proud of.”

Tenuous link. Raptobike is a sponsor - we've sold one or two of these. Front wheel drive design is ideal for these sort of machines...

83mph. I will use the word in a rare, correct sense and say I literally cannot compare the physical and emotional stresses of my highest speed to what must have been going on in that tiny cocoon with only an LCD to look at.

Uberuce, check out the video I posted this time last year. That was Sam Whittingham going like the clappers with a tiny little window to look through.

Puzzled as to why Graham Obree's prone recumbent was some 30 mph slower?
Is the prone position inherently much less efficient?
Nevertheless a great achievement by both the flying dutchman and the flying scotsman

The recumbents were very low and with high degree of engineering and sponsoship.

The prone was taller, possible side winds, Mr Obree wanted to do it all on his own.

I think he will be back next year.
