I had to swap out my fingerless gloves for my winter pair on Duke's Walk this morning.

    To rewrite that headline slightly.

"Temperatures are set to plummet... to something like normal for this time of year."

Methinks I'll soldier on in the summer bibs til mid October

    Three-quarter length autumn bibs thereafter

The summer cap will have to go back in the box now though, cos it flies off in the wind

I planned to go straight to jail, not passing go, with Longs and long sleived jersey with long sleived thermal, this morning. In the end a later than planned bedtime, meant I hit the snooze button this morning and took the train #cyclefail.

I did feel chilly this morning - 6 degrees on our thermometer at home. I wore a winter jacket over a summer SS jersey with shorts and long-fingered gloves. The cold got through the gloves so may have to dig out the winter pair. Did manage the long way in though.

Forecast is for increasing temperatures over the week.

My concern is the light - 7am is become perilously close to needing lights again.

I did have cold fingers on Friday but just in the morning. I try to say in shorts as long as possible. Will be time enough after the equinox, then the clocks, then we are talking bib 3/4. I have amazing endura bib longs that are too warm, also waterproof. Hardly ever used them. Best buy was a pair of Gore brand. They remain good after several winters. Te three quarters were alters, bit flimsy but sometimes worn late autmn

Nearly time to dig out the merinos, this is good I don't really like synthetic tops but seriously overheat during summer in wool.

I can advice against "BBB Raceshield". Next to useless. No, infact, just plain useless!

@ARobComp - My old man used to work for the council, cleaning out the bin motors with a steam cleaner. Nice work if you can get it...

One of the perks of the job was that he was able to access a seemingly endless supply of these brilliant gloves, ultra thin things but totally wind proof. If you know any bin men, ask them for a pair of steam cleaner gloves.

Funny day yesterday with the weather. Went along Broomhouse path to HG in the afternoon and despite the howling wind pushing me back the whole way it was pleasantly warm in the sun. Great fun on the way back - barely had to pedal at all.

At 7pm I was heading uptown along the canal and it was like the season had changed in a few hours. Dull with a biting, icy wind that cut right through the thin jersey and armwarmers. Thank god for good gloves - I can cope with pretty much anything as long as my hands aren't going numb and freezing to the bars.

Came back around 9pm and it was even colder. Forecast said around 7C, I think with the headwind chill it must have been around freezing. Months since I've felt that aggressive cold.

    @kaputnik, +1

We've finally had a decent proper summer, and now we're so used to it being nice we're moaning about it being very slightly cooler. It's really not that bad!

I use standard running gloves under my cycling mitts, which worked well for the bulk of last winter aside from a couple of weeks when it was below zero. I use liner Under Armour ones right now.

I was in arm and leg warmers today, but didn't start thinking about losing them until the climbs in mide-Fife.

In the end I kept them on because I was going so slowly I wasn't overheating, and they would require packing in my saddlebag, which I couldn't be bothered doing.

You can get silk liners off tinternet for less than a tenner that are v warm. I used decathlon cheapos last year as I lose them or wear them out, possibly by running my finger along walls? Not sureifninstill do that or maybe I have irregularly shaped fingers?

If you had to have a finger chopped off which would it be? Apparently your index is the most dispensable digit?

Not if you hold a pen with it, or can't touch type...
