Motorist hurt after train hits car on railway

A driver has been injured after a train collided with a car in Renfrewshire.

The white Hyundai appears to have broken through large metal barriers, coming to rest on the tracks before it was hit by the train at about 06:15.

    From the first article:

"A blue vehicle was pictured face down in the mud in Musselburgh harbour"

    It's getting worse

"A similar incident happened in June 2015 when the owner of a Volkswagen Polo turned her back for five minutes only to find her car had plunged nose down into a harbour."

    Outstanding. Outstanding.

Both VWs, so probably with electronic handbrakes (ie a button on the dash/near the gearstick). Not a safety improvement IMO.

I <rule 2> hate electronic handbrakes. Horrible things. (Downside of not owning a car but driving hire cars when you want to drive somewhere.)

(you got there first but sadly there's no suggestion the potatoes are sentient is there?)

Some things don't need to be stated explicitly.

Potatoes inherit sentience from the vehicle that carries them. They are a chip off the old block.

Those tatties jumped, they weren’t pushed. They said they wanted to be mashed.

A new twist on an old dumbness:

Adam Morris sounds like a bright chap

Of more concern - a dangerous driver who clearly shouldn't be on the road!

Brings to mind some of those apocryphal old insurance claims..."I was driving carefully along the road when the tree leapt out and damaged my car"

He’s quite unrepentant about his stupidity:

Twitter users – many of whom were anonymous and almost all men

    I see.

Though he's probably right in PR terms. Just leave the pilers-on to it.

@IWRATS: it is very revealing about modern politics: say something stupid/false/downright insane and then ignore any corrections, clarifications or attempts to connect back with reality. Explains Brexit.

Absolutely. The answer 'Oh that's interesting I hadn't thought of that but I will now' earns nul points in the game of politics.

I'm clear that Twitter is the pub and a bit of combative banter is quite appropriate for me. But not for politicians who wander in for a chat. They're on duty. This guy's off duty.

I rather liked his blog post, which talked a lot of sense I thought. A stark contrast to the original Tweet...

@Greenroofer, yes his blog post sounds reasoned and sensible until you realise he isn't taking his own advice:

"The only valid reason for deleting a tweet would be if it contained a glaring factual error"

    Or perhaps he is

"Don’t delete either – a user will have taken a screenshot anyway and then use the erasing of it against you. That just makes you look doubly pathetic."

I suspect the first option has to be accompanied by an apology/withdrawal statement.

Those drivers should really be glad that the wands are there. They'd have been quite likely to hit an expensive car, rather than a cheap bit of plastic, otherwise.

Quite odd to see relative sense from such a bizzare tweet. I thought this bit stood out:

“ These are all people who would never behave like this in real life – it’s a Twitter persona they’ve invented and flit effortlessly in and out of. I’ve taken on many of the above roles myself, and feel utterly ashamed for having done so.”
