I spotted this one today - it's on the A68, just north of the road going up to Soutra Aisle. Anyone want to go to try it sometime?

Amir I've been wanting to visit Soutra Aisle ever since I read about it but never made it. I'd be in, so long as we were avoiding as much of ther A68 as possible.

Soutra via the Granites is a good ride - a brief daliance with the A7 between Heriot and the turn-off to Soutra straight up a 10% climb, but it's pretty, and pretty hilly, all the way to the A68. In the past I have turned left down the A68, which is okay as it's downhill and you can bomb along quite happily.

I drove over the A68 last Saturday and realised that heading south there are two lanes up that climb, so it's possibly not quite as hairy a climb south from the Soutra Aisle junction as I thought. Certainly there were a couple of guys cycling up there in the left hand lane and overtakes were being made safely via the second lane.

I can't picture where the cafe is, amir?

The cafe is at the spot where the B6368 crosses the A68 at the bottom of Soutra you can get there via Gilston or Humbie and only have to cycle a few yards on the A68.

Yep, I often do a granites, soutra, Humbie loop with only a short downhill stretch of A68. I'm now on holiday though - could do when I get back? (just bought a steel frame from Spa cycles!)

amir: "just bought a steel frame"

That's a surprise. When do you hope to get it built up?

We should try to get out to the Soutra cafe though this weekend is out for me.

Hopefully mid October. It's due on 8th.

It's a gollygoshdarn handsome frame, but then I would say that since it's a lot like my Croix.

Yep, I'm game for a jaunt to them there parts.

I am going to have to source some gold accessories for it: cable routers, bar tape, medallion ....

Having heard about this cafe I popped in while passing a couple of weeks ago. It's a new building, quite smart, and the coffee and scone was okay.

However the alleged music with which I was assailed by means of a not quite on station radio was completely out of kilter with the demographic (typical of the type of clientele for such an establishment) present and put me off a bit.

Weekends are a bit chaotic with three teenage girls but I got out to North Berwick and back before dark. I need a plan so that others can organise themselves around me :)
