Who can I expect to see on Sunday morning for the Erit Lass? I've managed to recruit a much fitter friend to tow me all the way round.

I'll be there. Looks as though the weather will be good.

Haven't ridden an audax all summer, so I expect to be sloooow.

Not for me, Applecross duathlon on Saturday so it would be a bit of a mission to get back in time!

Hoping to ride the Beallach on Sunday although I somehow suspect I won't be smashing it on Strava, after last year's duathlon I couldn't even manage a flight of stairs...

I'll be away so can't do the Erit Lass. But I'll be doing the 3 Glens the following week and hopefully one or two of the Gala audaxes in October

Having ridden the Erit Lass and 3 Glens the previous two weekends they're both lovely days out when the weather co-operates. I'll be at both but driving round in my van feeding and watering everyone rather than on a bike.

"they're both lovely days out when the weather co-operates"

    A rather obvious statement there!

My ride round scotland in July was fab, but only because we had 30+ C temps. It would have been horrific if the usual Scottish wind/rain/hail/snow/thunder/brimstone (delete Add more as applicable) had bee the case.

Sadly I can't make this ride, for yet another year. My chest infection has kept me off the bike for 4 weeks now, and it shows no sign of going soon, dispite two lots of antibiotics! :O(

    Get well soon @DaveC.
@crowriver I've never ridden an audax, so we can hold the lanterne rouge together.

@DaveC, sorry to hear you're still unwell. Hope that clears up soon.

Dave = I'll be up for the duathlon although I'll be obeying rule #42 and supporting the girlfriend (by doing a 60 mile loop on the saturday and another on the sunday)

"even then, one should only run fast enough to prevent capture."

    Could be a big ask!

"even then, one should only run fast enough to prevent capture."

Presumably this links to Rule #80

Is anyone doing the Three Glens Explorer and would be willing to take a parcel from me to Darkerside (see "JE James sale" thread)? I would get the parcel to you.

Unfortunately I'm not in Edinburgh at the weekend. I'll be around (and not at work) on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday next week.
(I have a nasty suspicion that this is going to get far too complicated and I'd be better waiting until I can meet Darkerside in person....)

Well I got up early to get ready for today's Erit Lass. Looks as though it will be a fine day, not too hot, but just right.

On reflection though, I just don't feel fit enough to take on even a 200k. I've not ridden any decent distance since May, I've put weight on, and haven't done any training rides. This wouldn't have bothered me two years ago, but now it does: after two rides in the spring where I struggled and DNF'd, I know better than to set off on an addax feeling insufficiently prepared.

So, I'm a DNS with some regret, but I think it's the right decision for me at this point. To all riding the Erit Lass today, enjoy the ride. If it's still running in 2015 I hope to be in better condition to take it on. In the meantime I'll look to improving fitness and shedding a few kilos, do some longer rides without time pressures, and will hopefully be back on the addax scene in the spring.

Had an amazing weekend. First I smashed my PB on the Applecross Duathlon (1:54 previously 2:25) then yesterday we did the Beallach loop as a recovery ride, so I got to do the big one at last.

Hurting today a little, but nothing compared to the feeling of satisfaction.

My Erit Lass was a bit of a jump for me. Longer than my previous longest by about 70km. I managed to get round in 10 hrs, but was absolutely broken by the end. The climb out of Duns was merciless, and I was cursing my lack of gears. I usually manage hills fine, but when I was tired I would have done anything for an extra gear on the climbs.
I thought we'd be taking the road past the Whiteadder Reservoir, and was keeping an eye out for it, knowing the long climb would follow. Huge relief when I realised we were going the other way, and were already at the top of Redstone Rigg. That spurred me on to get the final 40km done quickly.
I should have got a lot more hours in the saddle, and had more water on the way round. Other than that, a success. Maybe even fun, once my legs return.

The climb out of Duns is never easy never mind after about 90 miles

I've got my name down for it. I think cyclops is helping out with his van.

Yes, I'll be sat up the top of Common of Dunning signing your cards before I dash back to the hall to resume my role as official cake taster.

Following some good advice from CCE I signed up for The 3 Glens.

It was touch & go whether I'd get a pass for the whole day, but somehow I've got one and even the weather looks good for tomorrow.

So I'll see you there - I'll have my 'Yorkshire Depart' top on - Do say hi (and feel free to give this novice any needed advice)

All being well I'll be cycling out & back to Linlithgow, so it will be my first 200k as well...

I'll be there as well (white recumbent).

I've written up the route into ridewithGPS*, broken into stages. Help yourself, if it's any use.

*I know there was a bikeroutetoaster thing, but I find if I step through the route in advance then I tend to get lost slightly less often on the day...

There's 90 names on the start sheet but I'll try to spot you HankChief and Darkerside.

I'll be wearing a red and white short sleeve Jersey unless it's a bit chilly. And on a van nick titanium upright with black bar tape

    90?!

I don't know why I bother preparing the GPS—I'll just follow the flock.

That was a very enjoyable route until the last bit through Grangemouth. I was the coo's tail at the start as we got stopped by every traffic light between Linlithgow and the Forth Road Bridge. So it wasn't until I got to Auchterarder that I saw anyone I knew. But by that time I was in a group including Darkerside which stayed together in part until the end. We wanted to try the famous cafe in Stirling but it was full (DaveC and Panyagua among those who beat us to it). I didn't want to go through the Skinflats bit alone so I was thankful for the company of Alex and the others.

Thanks again to Amir for the lift - I will buy a car soon, I promise!
