A great day out in fantastic weather.

I left home just after 8am and met someone else cycling to the start at Winchburgh, so had a nice chat about sportives on the ride across.

Introduced myself to the CCErs at the start and cycled alongside DaveC for the first part - including Dave's cheeky shortcut through Kirkliston.

Got into a group of 3 leaving Dunning top and we stuck together until the end, which was good.

Chatted to DaveC & amir at the Auchterarder lunch stop and we stopped for ice cream near Stirling University.

I don't think I've seen as many cakes as at the finish - I did my best to sample as many as I could...

The chap I cycle across with was leaving at the same time as me so we cycle back together.

Made at home at 6pm (in accordance with my pass).

My longest ever ride and couldn't have gone any smoother.

    Knackered now though...

Also had an excellent day out, although as usual didn't drink enough! Not used to such prolonged sunshine in autumn...

Only negative was my Garmin having a complete hissy fit half way round and refusing to turn on thereafter. Good job it was an easy route!

What a great day out, and a reminder after an emotional week that whatever our beliefs, we live in a beautiful country, especially when the sun shines all day and the wind turbines aren't turning! Didn't get the chance to meet HankChief, but good to see Cyclingmollie and Amir again. Collected quite a large peloton leading up to Grangemouth - seemed to go from 6 riders to about 20 in the blink of an eye. The Dalgety Bay massive (me, DaveC and non-forumite Steve) went home happy... and full!.

This was going to be my first 100 mile attempt, but due (mostly) to lack of preparation, and sorrows requiring drowning after last week, I wasn't fit on Sunday morning.

I will get round to both an audax, and 100 miles at some point, probably next year now.

I hope to ride the Etal-U-Can in October. I have already downloaded the GPX track so that's more preparation than I managed for yesterday. I have to say, I am not good at following the paper route guides. It might also help to remember my sunnies next time.

I've got my pass now for Etal-u-can. Though this really should be in next year's thread.

The Audax I did in July this summer will be shown on the BBC's The Adventure Show, made by Triple Echo Productions. The show is due to go out on Tuesday 9th December at 7pm on BBC2.

I've signed up for The Long Dark Teatime of The Soul Audax. 200km from Gala to Longtown on Saturday. I'm hoping that the weather and cake are good enough to make it enjoyable. Anyone else planning to do it?

Amir, I might be up for this. Just need to confirm travel plans and make sure I'm not getting back too late on Friday night.

Might there be room in your automobile?

@Baldcyclist - if you can do that loop round Tornapress-Bealach, you will giggle at 100 miles round these here parts.

I promised a write-up of the Tour o' the Borders closed-roads event a few months ago, but it's been so hectic that I've hardly had any time for my blog at all...

Highly recommended for next year, a good route which is just great on closed roads... entries already open ;-)
