I know we have several twitchers on here, so thought I'd ask: Can anyone recommend reasonable compact binoculars for under £100?

I'm looking for something I can use when out hill walking, so fairly light and/or pocketable. I'm not a serious nature watcher or anything, so not looking for professional quality.

I have folding Nikon 10x25 binoculars for portable use. 21st Birthday present and still going strong. Exact model no longer available, but similar ones are in their Compact range.

I bought these a few years ago, take them out on the bike and on the hills, waterproof, rubberised, not too bulky.

The bird (RSPB ?) shop in Rose St is very good, the chap who runs it is always very helpful. Near Tiso.

Love the RSPB shop and the bird guy is really nice.

I have never heaved my mega-bins about hillwalking since buying my monocular. I'll have to get the details when I get home but it only cost £50, is very light, very pocketable, very magnifiable and excellent quality.

I got some good lightweight bins for walking and cycling from Ebay (used). Cost me <£20. I think that they are Olympus PC 8 x 25. For birdwatching, with small bins there is probably not much point in magnification > 8 x

Correction the bins are olympus 8 x 21 DPC I. Not as good as the PC1s but cheaper.

I might as well sell my spotting scope.

I'll check it when I get home to make sure it's in good nick. Certainly ought to be, given how little it's been used. I'd be after £70 or so assuming it is.

Thanks uberuce. Do you know what objective lens it has and is there a tripod with it?

The eyepiece is the 15x45 variable. No tripod. Well, I have a tripod that fits it, but I still use it for my camera.
