  1. "I hate to disagree with you and possibly injure your tender feelings but, cyclists are not "just normal people"! "Normal" people do not have their every whim attended to by the City Council, "normal" people do not get large sections of roadway set aside for their exclusive use, "normal" people do not have outrageously expensive stretches of tram track altered simply because they fall over every time they get near it!
"Normal" people have to adapt to the environment they live in, so should cyclists!
    "

Every whim attended to? Seriously, where do they get this tripe?

You'd almost be tempted to start thinking EEN/Hootsman commentators are completely divorced from reality.

Still, whatever ethereal plane of existence they inhabit obviously still charges road tax.

EVERY whim? Now you're talking - do I just call the switchboard, or is there a special cyclist-only messanger service provided - seems the least they could do.

As a cyclist who would just like to be treated as an equal on the road...

    (1) I don't know what planet that person lives on.

    (2) Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of drivers on Edinburgh's roads that share his hostility.

Upon further research, I would like to add that you may wish whatever you want, because here is the reality:

Scotland has Europes worst ped deaths

    Cyclist injuries are up

Warning: Please have flame retardant suit, blinkers, irony detectors, troll repellent and your 'buzzword bingo: road tax edition' cards at the ready before entering.

Pedestrians are Abnormal, thundered the Trollograph.

"their every whim attended to by the City Council"

That would be the Council that built a new headquarters without bike racks.

    Did they?

Some bike racks At the front of waverleycourt, though often overspills onto the railings. Two sets of covered bike racks in the underground carpark that anyone can use, though hard to find and rarely used.

~100 racks for employees in the other underground car park.

Yep. The racks at the front were installed about a year after the building opened. The underground ones were not for visitors. I locked my bike to the statue and got a telling off from the security people.

Not good but made up for it since I would say, how about the very hard to find covered ones. I can try to give directions

Go in the car park where the public cars go in.

Cycle right to the west end of the car park on each floor there are covered racks. Covered by the roof of the floor above.

You should be given an apology for chaining to the Big Man if nowhere else to lock up

The original quote found by @Wilmington's Cow was in response to my post on the EEN site about the bile and hatred :)
I had attempted to explain that cyclists are like "them", that we walk places and drive places, too. Didn't go down well...

I suspect that the 24 up-votes I got pretty much all came from people over here!

Think I'll take the advice and stop reading the EEN comments...

Ach, no, read away. You just need to imagine a great big lead glass wall between you and then, and that you're manipulating the sample with robot arms:

"Fascinating. The trollometric readings on this specimen have actually melted my instruments!"

"This is both humbling and exciting. My earlier assertion that Lamarckian principles will hold true in the commentatosphere is wrong. No environmental effects, no matter how true, will affect the opinions of the individual."

    "Git."

    That kind of thing.

Brilliant. I actually spluttered wine on my keyboard when I read that bit.

Er. Bus Lanes? Motorways? Yup, you'd never catch 'normal' people using any of these facilities. Such things are clearly a sop to vocal minorities. Now, where's my horse?

@Cylingmollie I locked my bike to the statue

I think I ran past that at the weekend. Is that the lattice with a statue that looks like a council worker on a fag break?

@Snowy, yes that's the one. I don't visit there anymore.
