And it's not cyclists complaining so something might get done!

  2. They've missed a trick given that we've had lights and a speed camera in the middle of the Broomhouse path for years. And now we have a cycle lane with telephone junction boxes in the middle of it opposite Macro...

Had I not complained to CEC almost two years ago, there'd be a lamppost in the middle of the cycle lane heading down to the underpass at Ed Park Station too. (When they first relaid the path there after blocking it off and moving it slightly, they didn't bother relocating the light and marooned it in tarmac).

If the commenters are to be believed, then this path only became an issue once folk started driving motor vehicles through the park, forcing pedestrians to use the gravel path, which then required widening...

Simple solution: ban motor vehicles from the park! Case solved. Where do I send the invoice for my consultancy fee?

Somebody doesn't get out much, this is not unusual.

For example, this is on a 'Main Cycle Route':

Aye where has the Chipwrapper been hiding? This sort of thing is OLD news and established practice in the council.

@duncans: is that the A8 path? Pretty ridiculous 'upgrade' to the lighting there!

I like how they are described as being "clumsy." As if they have just by pure accident dropped the thing into the ground there, like you might drop your phone or something. Surely they had to plan where they were going to put it, and this position was decided a while before it went in? That description just seems a bit out of place.

Whoops, I've gone and applied for this mortgage by accident. Silly me, I'm so clumsy these days...

The headline has it wrong - according to the story the light was there before the path was built past it. It might look strange but it would be much cheaper to build the path around the back of the lamp-post than to take out the old lamp-post and put it further back to make room for a footway between the pole and the kerb.

I could be wrong here in my opinion I think that the lamp may have been there before the path was built up.

The infrastructure and all services are usually built in before any concrete is poured.

I cant see any signs of the new pavement being dug up to make way for the lamp and its cabling

The lamppost was there before the path. But formerly pedestrians, pushchairs, wheelchairs and kids on bikes would use the wide tarmacked driveway through the park; now that there is a narrow muddy footway with lampposts in the middle of it, motorists expect everybody else to use this instead.

Superficially, the path seems to be a way to give space to non-motorised park users, but it actually serves to reserve the better quality facility for motorists and marginalises everyone else.
