Totally non bike, but, my fridge freezer has given up the ghost. Its no longer cold, power is present, its about 10 years old, no noises coming from it(*)no gas escape or fluids anywhere silly.
So ! doers the lack of noise mean the pump has given up.,and if so, can they be serviced/repaired /replaced ?also, is it poassible that it could need brushes in ther motor for the pump, or is it now just a white box ? actually the trays will be good receptacles for bike bits !
any help gratefully received ! its a hotpoint , in more ways than one now !

Sorry dued can't help, but I do know ppl sell on white good when they still work, also we've given away freezers in the past when moving through Freecycle. But you may be minted, and want a new smeg anyway?

This any use? Have used this company for spares (Bosch washing machine) before and they have been excellent. They also have helpful videos

Ditto espares. But I can recommend a good person for servicing them if you decide you want outside help.

Here was me thinking this was a warning of more aggressively discarded white goods on the NEPN

When ours died the repair man said he thought it was a gonna, but it'd be worth switching it off at the mains for 24 hours (or maybe it was 48?) and seeing if that fixed it. The idea was to give it a total defrost. That was about 7 years ago and it's still going strong.

+1 to the total defrost, although mine(which conked out every six months or so) needed three days unless it was high summer.
Old towels laid under the door are a must.

On a related note, our washing machine is acting in an extremely random manner, constantly filling and draining water instead of moving on in the cycle. One has to nudge the programme on to the next stage manually.
I'm presumimg the logic control board is the issue. Alas the way things work these days, with callout charge, labour and parts, you're not saving much on a new machine getting it repaired professionally...

Crowriver, have a look at the espares advice videos on the site above. They have diagnostics there. We had a problem similar to yours and it turned out it was the 'sensors' aka carbon brushes. Very cheap to replace and they even have a video on the website showing how to do it, IIRC. Not saying that's what wrong with yours, but ours was a filling/emptying bugbear.

May just be a sensor or thermostat that's gone.
For example, is it a self defrosting one? These often have a small sensor which detects when there is ice buildup on the refridgeration pipe matrix, and switches on a small heater underneath for a minute or two. As Poco says, try doing some diags.
If indeed you think the sensor or a thermostat has gone, they are usually quite cheap to replace (eg £10) if you are handy with a screwdriver. A lot cheaper than a whole new unit!
If on the other hand the refridgeration matrix has gone, that's usually into 3 figures...Posted 11 years ago # -
Is the compressor getting very hot? This could indicate an airlock in the coolant, which can be remedied by turning the f/freezer upside down (unplug it and empty it first, obvi...) and putting it upright again. Repeat a few times (you'll hear lots of gurgling, but don't worry) and allow an overnight pause (while upright) to let everything settle down. Then switch on again. Happened to our f/freezer and a few inversions and an overnight rest did the job - it ran for several years more without complaint.

"Any good central heating boiler servicers?"
We use Scottish Gas (British gas?) on contract, they have been gradually rebuilding our boiler over the last few years! Cheaper than buying a new one.
