There was a Press release from AXA insurance last Thursday about a new report that calculated that 800 lives are lost on Britain’s roads through accidents caused by road rage or disrespectful driving a year. The only paper that picked up this story was Mondays Metro and that was a small piece on page 7!

Death by driving is so common it isn't new worthy!! If this had been about terrorism there would have been screaming out rage on every front page. There is something very wrong with our society.

AXA research finds the worst city for disrespectful drivers: Swansea! Red lights were seen as almost optional extras, with just 50% bothering to stop, and almost three-quarters did not indicate correctly.

Edinburgh can in at 30th place on the table.

Two years on and the number of vulnerable road users being killed on our roads continues to rise, yet nothing is done to change the culture of bullying and bad driving on our roads.

The government just blames the victims, telling us the Strict Liability (placing the burden of civil liability on the shoulders of those capable of doing the most harm) won’t work. Spending £3,000m on a road scheme to allow people to drive faster on a road where excess speeding is a major factor in the death rate, rather than trying to reduce speeds with average speed cameras. Telling us that we just need more cycle training to make us safe, and a "respect campaign" instead of decent infrastructure.

Sadly we are going to need more need a lot more Ghost Bikes in the coming years, unless action is taken to change this situation.
