Take on the Arthur's seat challenge with the Bike Station. Join in the free events in Holyrood Park on Sunday the 22nd of August.

There's something for every level of cyclist, from children and beginners to competitive cyclists.

The day kicks off with a Dr bike session for all competitors from 8:30am. Enjoy your free cyclist’s breakfast at 9:30am, and the main cycling events start at 10:30am.

For the competitive cyclist take on the lap challenge. How many laps of the road circuit round the hill can you complete in 1.5 hrs? If you're not feeling quite so energetic, but want to take on the hill, try the 5km. And for families, why not show off your local knowledge in the Holyrood Park cycle quiz trail.

Round off the day with our bouncy castle and afternoon tea.

It’s all free, fun and a good way to spend a summer Sunday.

Find out more, and register at http://www.findabetterwaytowork.org/event_registration.php or contact Esther Halcrow, on 0131 667 3558 or via esther@thebikestation.org.uk

    I went and enjoyed.

I wonder if the park would consider keeping hill road closed every Sunday for rest of summer?

PS - I can't find the other Arthur's Seat Challenge thread.

    Is it this one?

"So who is up for the Arthur’s Seat Challenge, then?"

I spent a couple of hours down at Holyrood with Laid Back and LB affiliates, met Wendy at last, saw Mark from TBS, caught up with Feargus and Susie, and watched a lot of very fast ERC jerseys going by!

I thought it was a great event and the sort of thing that CEC should be encouraging more by closing the park roads more often. So many people having so much fun!

It does beg the question of what the park roads are for, a resource for the people of Edinburgh to have fun, or a convenient rat run to get from East Lothian into the city centre?

    Hello,

If you're interested, I've put some photos up on Flickr of the event - http://www.flickr.com/photos/abetterwaytowork/sets/72157624788754064/

Unfortunately we didn't take very many - but the ones we have give a good feel of the Arthur's Seat Challenge.

Arellcat - a pleasure to meet you! Thanks for the shot of your bike :)

I also agree, would be great to see those roads closed during the weekends for cyclists, joggers, walkers and any other recreational activities. They manage to do this in Mexico City - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2010/aug/22/mexico-city-cycling-lessons

Sorry I missed this, looked like a great day. The weather was equally generous in the Lake District for my first attempt at ridge walking en route to Helvellyn.

Spot on. The parks own transport report mentions the contribution the roads make to transport in the city. I think by that they mean it's easier to drive when they're open!

The odd thing is that people seem to believe that the hill road is closed every Sunday. It isn't.
