According to the advert - did I say advert, I meant "article" - in the Telegraph, this is the future of cycling:

A tiny motor, attached to a back wheel, stores up energy from pedal strokes to help power the bike.

When you get tired, or reach a hill, it can push you along at up to 10 times your regular power.

Leaving aside any Fabian Cancellara jokes, this sounds like both a good idea and sacrilege.

If anyone wants to pre-order one they are for sale here, not that I feel the need to e-assist just yet...

Not a sacrilege at all, if there was a rule about not making cycling easier we'd still be on penny farthings. Yes I know that's not their real name.

I don't see the point to calling it 'super-pedestrian'.

I think ordinaries could be quite efficient as the transmission was very simple. My sister had a late 19th century edition of Britannica and speeds listed were quite respetcable. The problem came with hitting bumps in the road when your centre of mass was high above the front wheel.

And there is sort of a rule about making bicycles more efficient, it's called the UCI.
