It would make a nice centrepiece for a bike shop/cafe/bar called The Obree Hour.

If I remember the book correctly Obree wanted his feet as close together as possible. He had to make his own bottom bracket and BB bearings to achieve this on Old Faithful. The company that made this bike used a standard BB and it was rejected on those grounds.

Not bad for a second hand bike...

It should go to NMS or Riverside in Glasgow. Maybe buyer will lend it.

  8. The NMS has the actual record-breaking bike, so they're unlikely to want this backup bike.

Riverside has (I think) a replica from the film. I hear they've suspended most of the bikes from the roof where you can't really see them anyway.

The Burrows-built version of "Old Faithful" doesn't "look right". That's mainly because it actually looks like a "proper" bike. Part of the elegance of OF is some of the clunkiness of it all. It has it where it matters, but he didn't feel the need to refine parts that didn't need refined. Look closely on the bike in the NMS and you can clearly see where he ground down the cranks with a file to increase the clearance for his feet.

IIRC you can get close to the NMS one. There's a lot of stuff up in the air, including bikes and a whole wall of cars. In fact, there's just a lot of stuff there. Still worth a visit (I lost my boyfriend and rediscovered him eventually at the endlessly circulating display of model ships...).

Forgot that NMS had original (shameful lack of knowledge as I used to go round museum a lot when daughter was younger).

The film and book touched on Graeme Obree's tricky relationship with 'Mr Burrows'. In some ways this coloured the Human Power record at Battle Mountain. I'm sure Mike would have been able to provide a lot of info on what people had found as they tried to edge their speed up by 0.25mph. Graeme's effort was very much solo effort that no-one else would have even attempted. Like his bikes he's very much a 'one off' (apart from this copy!)

I just went for a look at Old Faithful, and it's suspended at about eye level.

The bb shell is certainly unique.

I then got thoroughly lost trying to get out, and had to spend 45 minutes wandering round looking at things...damn shame...
