There is a possibility of cycle parking being installed in the Harrison park/Shandon areas. Does anyone have any suggestions as to particularly useful locations?

Yes, I was going to say, by Margiottas.
I recall reading some time ago a thing linked to on here which was advice about cycle parking at railway stations. One thing it said was that if you got a lot of "fly parked" bikes (i.e. locked to anything around, e.g. railings) that was a good indication of a need for more bike parking. I don't think this just applies to railway stations... but I can't think of anywhere else round there where I often see bikes parked.
EDIT: actually, down by Taste Good on the Slateford Road. There's not a lot of pavement there, but you could get some cyclehoops on the posts, and I've definitely seen bikes locked up to some of the posts in that area.

Hi, Not sure if the consolation on this has passed, but leaving feedback anyway...!
I think that Harrison Park East, near the Merchiston club would be very much improved by the addition of a cycle parking area. The club is widely used and cycles are always chained to the nearby railings - it's sometimes difficult to find a spot!!
I for one would appreciate being able to chain my bike up properly there.
