Don your helmet and body armour, take off your headphones and be prepared... there's only going to be one winner here!

I'm never sure as to the real risks as in some ways trams are pretty predictable. Kind of large things that travel on pre-ordained routes.

Will I still be able to use the eastbound tram track to turn up Torphicen St from West Maitland St? Don't think it's any more dangerous than Haymarket Yards?

EDIT: The driving video aslo shows Haymarket Yards and gets in a safety plug for drivers giving space while overtaking cyclists....
Shows off the narrow strip that means that any tram will have to stay behind a bike and vice versa there. Trams can't move out to go by on the narrow strip alloted to bikes users. I predict that many will end up cycling on pavement here.

    "TRAMS: The Silent Killers"

So the general advice seems to be:

    - Look where you are going
    - Don't run red lights
    - Plan ahead and signal early (cyclists)
    - Try not to kill cyclists (car drivers, presumably tram drivers too)

I think I can manage that!

I find the advice "Cross tracks close to a right angle", and a subsequent video of someone cycling in between the tracks sort of hilarious...

    All style, no substance?

At the least I think they owe us a video of someone cycling along Princes St past the St Andrew's Sq turn-off with a herd of taxis squeezing past (yet still crossing the tracks at 90 degrees).

In the dark and rain, obviously.

    "I think they owe us a video ... "

NO it's our fault for being in the way of their nice trams.

Even pedestrians manage to not get stuck in the tram tracks...

Does anyone else think that the car doesn't give the cyclist a huge amount of room, even after the "Give cyclists space" message...

Yes Fimm. But the car driver knows that the cyclist is 'trapped' between the pavement and the tram tracks at Haymarket! So effectively neutralised. ;-)

I have to say that I'm going to enjoy signally my intent to slow, then crossing the tracks at right angles, then cycling off, all the while with a tram behind me.

Do you think the drivers will recognise the signal?

+1 bonus points for doing it on a twitchy road bike with narrow drop bars, +2 points for each of it being dark, wet, windy and busy.

I used to have the same grips you can see on the bike at 0:23. They're super comfortable and lasted ages through loads of mountain biking and then commuting /sidetrack /track pun.

Cross tracks close to a right angle

I've got pictures and videos to show that this is impossible in practice at both Haymarket and foot of the Mound.
