Someone suggested last year having a 'decorate your bike' event prior to POP - maybe aimed at families primarily, although I'm sure there's a few people on here who would enjoy that.
We had some fantastic bikes at POP2 (the Panda/spiderman combo tagalong sticks in the mind) but not really enough of them and it would be good to see more signs / slogans on the bikes too... anyone up for something like this?

Statutory reminder -
For newcomers (ALL welcome) -
"Normally from 7.30 to 8.30 for most folk."
Some people hang on past nine.

I presume that's in the morning?

As 'always'.
Evening meetings have been very random - and usually in pubs!

There is the cycle hack meetup that night.

@sallyhinch
Sorry no pedalling panda this year. Last years event took it's toll on my Panda.
Firstly the towing two bikes with two children and pedalling panda was not stable to say the least. Second the hinges in the Panda's Knees got v hot and produced a burning smell and third the free-wheel fell off 100 meters from the end of the return ride to Harrison Park. I think the his days of pedalling are over.
This year my children will be cycling free, in POP T-shirts and I hope to get the Panda on the front of my bike.

If I can get around to it I'll maybe make placards for the kids that read "We want our independence". The Scottish Government might understand that.

I have a 42 year old panda but it doesn't get out much.
Will have to be withput the family this year as we can not all get into Edinburgh with our bikes. :0(

@DaveC
My plan this year is for M to drive to Dalmeny Station with the weans and their bikes. I'll cycle there and then we can all pootle into Edinburgh.Posted 10 years ago # -
My 'weens' are too young to cycle so far. They would tire too early and would want pushing all the way back.

Davec not second guessing you - it's a long day - but K. Did that ride a few years back. And the way home is downhill (for us it's always uphill:(

@DaveC People on foot welcome too of course
@Biketrain - sorry to hear about the toll on the panda, it was one of the highlights of last year. Kids cycling free are just as cool of course, and in normal circumstances almost as rare...
@Instography - nice one

@DaveC - fair enough. It's still 10 miles or so from Dalmeny making a 20 mile + round trip. Twenty is a lot for wee legs. Ewan clocked up 42 on the day last year, cycling all the way from home but we've done almost no cycling this year so I expect he'd struggle. I suspect Mandy would struggle too and Ellen will be on the tandem. Hence the start at Dalmeny.
How about driving further in - to Park and ride or South Gyle. Ratho would let you ride along the canal. Wester Hailes or Slateford (park at Asda) would get you closer. Could offer a tagalong.

Or even park near my flat and join the Harrison Park feeder? (No restrictions on parking. Small people might prefer to walk one junction (a right turn) to get to the park). I'd be happy to meet up and guide you over. Parking closer to the park is also unrestricted, but busier.

I have no children, otherwise I'd pinch Instography's idea...
I was thinking of getting the names of all the cyclists who have died on Scotland's roads since Keith Brown took office and putting them on a placard with something about the deaths being his responsibility, but I'm not sure that's quite in the spirit of the event... maybe "Space for Cycling, Space for People" might be better...?

"the names of all the cyclists who have died"
Tempting, but to be fair we'd need the longer list of names of those who have failed to die due to their being healthy cyclists.
Highlightind danger gets the press interested, but puts people off cycling. I guess there's a balance to be struck, but it would take a finer mind than mine to find it.

I've now got an A5 POP poster on my handlebars. pre-event advertising - even when parked.

We only have a Ford Ka now so no chance of driving in, or I would be doing this. I may join a feeder ride or head in on my new bike to meet other peeps at Laidback.
We have a tag-along but I can't see either chold riding in from DB to Edinburgh and back in one day sadly.

If the family wants to drive in as Fimm suggested, and could bring one small kids bike, we may not be using our tandem, and your wife could ride that with the other child.

Just in case anyone has forgotten.

Ah. I'd been thinking of either taking the big bike to work, or going swimming, on Friday morning. I am now reminded and will come and drink coffee instead :-)

Bump - A few people said that they were going to bring me their Blue pop marshal tabards from last year. I'll be there bright and early so that would be ace!
Thanks!

I may have a tabard somewhere. Will have a look see.

Watched them park a van in the cycle lane in order to install a cycle counter (I asked them, and that is what it is). Missed my train. Hey-ho.
