In Glasgow, as in cities the world over, cyclists form a silent minority and relatively few people are willing to use the bicycle as a means to get from A to B.

Bodies at both national and local governments are keen to promote the many obvious benefits of city cycling, but posters and promotional packs need to be backed by infrastructure and investment.

New Social Art School produced a publication about cycling in the city of Glasgow; offering interviews, insights and written statements by some of Glasgow's hidden pedalers...

The pollution in Glasgow was - and probably still is since it is even more congested than when I was there-absolutely terrible. I had to wear one of those smog masks as my nose and throat would end up black with particulates and I would start wheezing.

And the cycle paths were models for the worst that cycle paths have to offer in the UK. Loads of stupid little gates that you had to stop and lift your bike over plus wall to wall pointless "cyclists dismount" signs in the middle of the path for no apparent reason.

    I don't think I ever saw a cycle lane that wasn't a car park.

Dreadful. I would like to think it is better now but after a read of that site, it doesn't really look like it.

Oddly one of the more regular searches bringing traffic to the Cycle parking post on my blog is "cycle parking in Glasgow", so there are people there wanting to cycle, but are put off by the lack of secure cycle parking. Just like Edinburgh!

All looks very car-dominated to me. A poor woman cycling on a double-yellow lined road with cars - only one car shown in the viz, but I'm sure there'll be hundreds... with parking eliminated, plenty of opportuninty for speeding...

    No sign of any continuous-footway...

Typical disappointing "we haven't quite got it" crap from incompetent UK roads designers

I thought it looked pretty good? widened pavements, segregated cycle ways. better than most of what we're seeing in Edinburgh. important they join up though. I don't know the area well enough to judge.
