Guardrail (removal)

    (Aka railings)

    A favourite CCE topic.

    It is generally CEC policy to remove 'where possible'.

    Main reasons -

    Not to hem in pedestrians for the convenience of traffic flow.

    Reduce the risk of cyclists being squashed (especially on corners).

    General reduction of 'streetscape' clutter.

    Downside can be removal of convenient bike parking.

    Outside of John Lewis - less guardrail more racks. -

    Aye I noticed the new racks a couple of weeks ago. Better than before.

    wherever there is the "need" for urban guardrail, the first option should always be to stick it on the road to slow traffic down to make it safe enough for all human beings to go about their lawful business, not just those wrapped in high-powered steel boxes.

    Railings have also been removed from Ashley Terrace.
