I wonder if overtaking bicycles too close will be considered "inconsiderate driving". Especially if there is a red light ahead anyway.

He said, however, that, while this push was to be welcomed, the acid test would be when the figures for traffic accidents and deaths for the past year were published.

Only if there was some sign of further downward pressure on these, Mr Greig added, would the new legislation be considered successful.

Really? Surely a more pleasant driving environment with less aggression and bullying would be a good end result in and of itself?

Point of information - the figures are only that high for Scotland as they are published by force area. Polis Scotland covers the whole population of Scotland and figures are bound to be high.

Yes, it is a pretty poor application of statistics, even by usual journalistic standards.

Think it is also linked to police forces who have been pursuing bad drivers with spot penalties. ~ 1500 out of ~5500 offences in Scotland. ~ 950 in much smaller area Nottingham.

I can't understand why there are so many negative comments on the Scotsman website, surely it can only be a good thing for all road users if they clamp down on bad driving. Unless of course they are all guilty of such driving!

Yes, I find it hard to believe that inconsiderate driving is lower in the Greater London area than it is across Scotland or in Nottinghamshire.

Presumably the Met just turn a blind eye more often?

I agree with cb's comments above. From the stats, you can't make the conclusion that the Scotsman has arrived at unless, of course, you are a journalist with a sensationalist headline to deliver.
