New reduced radius junction

It's time for another specific bit of infrastructure news for those in the West of Edinburgh...

There is currently roadworks at the junction of Corstorphine Bank Drive and Templeland Road.

    Here

It looks like they are reducing the radius of the corners to slow down the traffic - it is used as a rat run to avoid the traffic on St John's Road and Drumbrae, so will be welcomed to slow down traffic.

We'll see how successful it is once they have finished it.

Now if they were really wanting to make a change to safer active travel here, they would also complete the dotted green line on chdot's first map.

Wouldn't take much - changing the pelican crossing over Drumbrae (with associated TROs for the short bit of pavements) and remove the anti-disability barriers Here that prevent easy access to the cut through to Forrester's Road and mean that cyclists have to climb further up the hill and share the road with drivers using Hillview Terrace as a rat run.

I wonder if it was even considered...

Deciding is the hardest part - the rest is just pure work.

Here a photo of the work in progress on the junction

    Templeland Road

There is already a noticeable reduction in speed to navigate it.

The corner of Marionville Road and Marionville Avenue at the Lochend roundabout has been trimmed a bit, too. At least four crashes of one sort or another at that corner over the past few years.

    That's good.

Hopefully they'll do something similar on the corner of Castle Avenue/Ladywell Avenue - it's a Drumbrae/St John's Road rat run to the south. Same speed problems as well.

Below some photos of the newly remodelled three way junction between Portobello Road, Craigentinny Avenue and Restalrig Avenue. Always been a hazardous junction this, and of course this is where Audrey Fyffe was killed while riding her bike by that driver who got off despite having killed before.

(click to see full versions: sorry but I can't figure out if photobucket has a 'thumbnail' option - imageshack having gone 'premium' okay figured it out.)

"this is where Audrey Fyffe was killed ..."

That will be why that particular junction has been remodelled.
