    "Edinburgh Street Design
    Edinburgh Street Design guidance
The Council are preparing Street Design Guidance for Edinburgh. The guidance will set out how good street design can make better places, whilst improving the way people get around.

    Edinburgh Street Design consultation
The consultation on the draft Street Design Guidance has now closed. The next step will be to consult on parts of the detailed guidance within the design manual. A number of these are available below with comments accepted until 31 August.

If you need to get in touch, please email us at streetdesign@edinburgh.gov.uk"

Sorry - better link here http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20089/roads_and_pavements/906/edinburgh_street_design

The main consultation is closed (it was actually fairly good for cycling) but they are still accepting comments on the detailed design guidelines. Looks like you just send an email

"Looks like you just send an email"

    Yes.

    Also -

"Unfortunately the section on cycle parking hasn’t been included."

SO, maybe add some comments on that too!

Page 24 of the doc Sally linked to is pertinent to another thread:

Access controls are commonly provided to prevent entry by motor vehicles or to slow cyclists’ speed on the approach to a junction or bend.

Access control to slow cyclists or encourage young children to stop and wait for parents may be required on:
    • The approach to a junction or crossing;
    • On steep ramps and gradients
    • At a blind bend

Access controls on cycle routes should be avoided wherever possible, and only used where there is a proven requirement.

Bollards are the preferred method of access control

    [My emphasis]

Wonder if the Cycle Team wrote that to amend current guidelines??

Rather "interesting" section on chicanes, complete with photo of the Crawford Bridge!

The cycle design guidance does not appear quite finished: not much on off-road facilties for example.

Anyway, I'll het feeding back I suppose...

The Edinburgh Design Guidance (the Guidance) was originally approved in May 2013. We are now updating it to reflect changes in local and national policy and would like to hear from you.

We are proposing a range of changes across the Guidance, with key changes centred on the Council’s Parking Standards, advice on Build to Rent Housing, and designation of protected views to the Forth Bridge.

I not sure that 'we' noticed (or maybe I missed it) that the Edinburgh Streets Design Guidance came out in December.

    Some good stuff in it...

Not yet had much luck getting chicanes removed, despite being able to point at Factsheet P2 - Promoting Pedestrian Movement, which says that:

“Design should give special consideration to the young, old and those with disabilities” and “free from barriers such as footway obstructions”

    Anyone had more success?

Making some progress with the chicanes of West Edinburgh, which I hope will bear fruit...
