Their socks are good. The stand at £29.99 attracts interest. Their nylon jacket is wind proof but not waterproof, folds into small size. Seem to have a lot more stuff. I was after chain cleaner tool but not doing that.

Gembo, Lidl were doing a chain cleaner in their sale a few weeks ago. There may still be some left.

I got the Lidl workstand and I'm pretty please with it. It seems sturdy enough for my irregular tinkering. The Aldi one is similar.

Food thermos (bento) will be back at the end of the week. I got one last time and number 2 son uses it all the time for his noodles.

Good tips, will be at wester hailes odeon (still not closed) with son to see winter soldier so I may take him to The Centre to open his eyes. Bought one of those red sistema food cups like none billion others, will try a wide mouthed flask too.

the bluetooth speakers could be good. I spend a lot of time trying to hear the google maps directions from my phone at the moment. there was a helmet with roughly these specs/costs reviewed in Cycling Weekly a few months back. seemed good.

Thanks for the update @gembo. I'll check the Musselburgh branch. They usually have loads of stock and it sells slowly.

There was real Tacx Swing trainer at the Bike Station last week for £10.

Dash it, I was hoping this was going to go un-noticed! Oh well, I'll just have to make sure that I get to Aldi early on Sunday morning then...

@ejstubbs If it helps, a lot of their stuff is available to order online too, sometimes before it's available in store.

Oh, I know - but too much stuff coming through the letterbox arouses the suspicions of SWMBO that I've been buying 'gadgets' again!

Was there at 9 a.m. This morning. Not many bargain hunters at that time. One fella bought 5 pairs of the £2.99 socks.

I went for the usual medium merino long sleeved base layer. It is a total copy of the Rapha one for £40 less. grey. Wearing it now.

Waterproof socks and the £2.99 socks I always get a pair. And set of rechargeable lights. Their light offer this year is varied. I was going for the very bright front light but the clip attachment is a little flimsy. So went with a pair of rechargeable ones.

In non cycling section - pair of memory foam slippers. £3.99. I am thinking the foam might have a bad memory (more a joke buy as Mrs Garto abhors my £4.99 Aldi Birkenstock copies but I don't). For later shoppers the Douro red at £4.99 looks a steal.

If anyone is tempted by the £2.99 flashy lights DONT!
Bought a set from aldi in porty this morning, tested them when I got home, front light fine, back not functioning.
Took them back, had to wait in a big queue at the till to get them exchanged, got the new ones home, exactly the same fault.
Probably a bad batch. Not going back today to wait in yet another queue!

@tammytroot good shout as they look nice, I had a pair in basket until I saw the rechargeable ones

@tammytroot: I bought one of these ones and it didn't work 'out of the box'. Being an inveterate fiddler I then discovered that if you open up the battery compartment, there's a plastic disc between one of the CR2032s and its contact to the circuit. It is marked "Remove", but if you didn't open the thing up you'd have no idea it was there. It's not mentioned in the instruction leaflet either. With that gone, the thing works fine.

No idea whether that might have been what was stopping yours from working.

On a side note, I really dislike that single use plastic packaging they use that has to be cut open with scissors. Apart it not being planet-freindly, I always seem to end up getting speared by a sharp end of the fillet as I cut it off the edge of the package.

@ejstubbs, the ones I bought were the round front and rear set, so not the same but, like you I managed to figure out how to remove the wee plastic insert and get the front light working.
Both rear lights refused to work unless you press REALLY hard with your thumb on the back of the battery so it looks like a bad batch.
    Agree about the packaging.

I got the rechargeable lights set too. I already have a set but with my bikes being in 2 locations, 2 sets makes sense. The merino headband kept my ears toasty this afternoon. The base layer top and padded tights are nice quality for the price - I'll get more of those if they have any next time I'm in. I went for the reflector set too. I quite like the idea of the individual spoke reflectors. Oh and I got more winter gloves.

    In short, I'm skint now.

I got a pair of the fluoro shoe covers and a tail light which does work. Still plenty of stock in Musselburgh.

I bought fluoro shoe covers a while back in EBC. They get dirty quite quickly. But then the outlay on the Aldi ones is far lower than I shelled out for the Sealskinz ones.

Any one try the jackets? Thinking about my layering and trying to decide if I want a heavy jacket and just continue to wear t-shirts or switch to merinos and keep wearing my petex jacket.

    layering the is the future.

I bought a jacket 1 or 2 Special Buys ago - think I've worn it once and that was to the pub. It's just too warm to cycle in.

@IanMcR- use the jacket the very odd winter day where temperature are below freezing, but agree- it is more useful away from cycling.

I was chilly in my short sleeve and long sleeve baselayer combo but had warmed by the time I arrived at work.
