.....cycle along with their helmet hanging off their handlebars? I mean you must leave the house thinking "better wear my helmet for safetys sake" then a little later on you think 'dangers over I'll hang it from my handlebars' ??? saw a woman on a bso doing this today and just wondered what goes through these people's heeds.

This is in no way a F*****g helmet debate though so don't even think about it .....OK?

  2. It's odd isn't it? Funnily enough I saw a guy doing just the same yesterday lunchtime outside my office and the same thought entered my head.

My only conclusion - the other half at home won't let them leave the house on a bike without wearing a helmet, then as soon as they're out of sight...

I used to take my lid off when on the canal or rail path when overheated, but always wear it on the roads
Maybe they wore it out to the shops, put it on handle bars to go into shop then forgot to put it back on when leaving? Simple forgetfulness?

It's the same sort of cyclist who thinks that the handlebars are a nice place to balance carrier bags / rucksacks / handbags (or manbags, to keep it gender neutral), rather than a vital piece of machinery in the control and stability department

Luke Griggs, Headway spokesman, said: 'Brain injury can happen at any moment - all it takes is just one fall and you will regret it for the rest of your life.

I have been known of late to put my helmet in basket/panniers in the morning when my hair is wet, but to wear it home in evening.....but that may partly be influence of you anti-helmetists....

Yes let have compulsory walking helmets, after all there more head injuries among pedestrians (per Km travelled) than cyclist

Does it really matter if people have a helmet hanging off their handlebars, it is only a fashion accessory after all...

    Recombodna: Glad to hear it!

Have made a lot of red currant, and hopefully some black currant today. Blueberries just ripe, but we'll miss the partridgeberries (lingonberries to the swedes) which look set for a bumper harvest.

How is this not a helmet debate topic? <confused />

In any case there is a simple and satisfying answer, but in the interests of not offending, I shan't elaborate.

"How is this not a helmet debate topic?"

Because everyone (including you - "in the interests of not offending") is practicing self-restraint.

No doubt the results of such self denial will be manifested elsewhere...

@chdot - hey, I refute that... I even admitted to taking mine off at times, going the other way...
    (that helps the other side)

I meant meant self restraint on here.

What you do in the real world is up to you...

I meant I wasn't restraining myself as I had gone too far the other way...

    The 'debate' has surfaced here...

    H-word appears!

    People are being re-strained!

    That's not a debate, that's sniping.

    The discussion happened here.

Check out the Nice chat with a cyclist this morning string that Anth started, most sensible H-word chat ever

Some make a distinction between MTB risk and roadrisk on the H? I finally worked out why my camelbak (twas a gift) had strange expandable bit between the main pocket and the wee pocket big enough to put a polystyrene bunnet in
