Hello, I would like to get myself a pair of cycling sunglasses (the once's with inserts) for my commute. I have found lots of place online but wonder if anyone here had used an optician in Edinburgh where I could buy from the shop instead of online. I am not really looking to fork out the cash for the big brand names like some of the bigger places appear to do! Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Jack Brown's on Elder street would be my first port of call. Nice people, good service and cycle friendly.

I did this a number of years ago and at the time found I had to go online, and wasn't bothered about the "local business" aspect if they couldn't be bothered to offer the product they clearly didn't want my money.

I ended up going with a company (GoSportsSpex) which was an online shopfront for a regular high-street optician and was please with the service and product.

For infor I went with the Adidas Evil Eye (the old style ones). I found Adidas to offer the widest range of frames at a very good price, as none were specific to prescriptions, just needing the Rx insert on the standard product. You bought the standard sports frames and the insert as well, which can be reglazed as and when your prescription demands.

My cousin is an optician in Edinburgh and she's friendly towards at least one cyclist.

Try Spectacles Direct at Stewartfield Industrial Estate, just off Newhaven Road. You need to take your prescription along as they don't do eye tests. They do all the designer stuff, but I got a pair for £80 that I'm more than happy with.

They've got a website but it doesn't list all the frames they have. The ones I got weren't on it.
