The first one is across the road to the David Lloyd Centre in Gyle Park, and yes quite a trip hazard - also grounding hazard for the tandem.
This is my preferred non-tarmac route across Gyle park that I referred to in the 'new route signs thread' (signs still not fixed!)
And presumable no children using that path...

Cornwallis Place permeable:
Have to say these have worked a treat by closing off a taxi-driver's favourite rat run (with the usual 12 months of taxi driver moaning that it's the customers who are having to pay for it), making Royal Crescent much quieter and allowing an easy cyclists' cut-through to the top of the NEPN at George V Park.

I love how the Edinburgh Park chicane above actually leads you directly over a manhole when it could have been set up to do the opposite. Thankfully, that one seems pretty secure for now.
