OK, it's about employment law/rights, but...
Alcoholism being widely accepted to be a disease I'd expect a health authority to make sure its procedures were followed to the letter before an individual was dismissed for performance issues resulting from a medical condition.
Equally I'd expect this gent not to be allowed to drive until his condition is in remission.
According to the story, even after the payout from this case the convicted drink-driver Dr. Alan Stockman is out of pocket to the tune of £130,000 for an episode in which he drove on the motorway in such a condition that he couldn't even operate his own car door.
Many would see that as more justice than the usual light tap on the wrist in these cases...
