    Any chance that new charges could be focussed on drivers sitting with their engines idling? The US even has a public info campaign about that.

    New diesels are becoming less polluting, manufacturers seem to be listening. Must admit I was surprised to see the new models of the Volvo V70 costing £30 a year to tax, and giving over 60mpg (mine gives about 45mpg).
    A diesel V40 will cost you nothing to tax, and give over 90mpg.
