Emergency services closed off Palmerston Place today after a woman found dangerous chemicals in a basement.
Fire officers said she had discovered a jar of potassium cyanide, which is a highly dangerous toxic chemical, however it was thought the material had been there for around fifty years.

I'll be impressed when they close a street due to the vehicles actually filling the air with the highly dangerous toxic chemicals carbon monoxide and nitrogen tetroxide. The risk of that versus a jar of KCN are frankly not in the same league.
“This is our normal response when any member of the public tells us they have dangerous chemicals requiring disposal, regardless of the storage conditions. To ensure public safety we take no chances and that’s why the street was closed and a cordon put in place.”
Sounds like he's trying to cover an over reaction. If I phone up to say I have a small quantity of mercury which needs disposed of will they come and collect my old light bulds?
