A taxi driver, who killed a 74-year old pedestrian on a Zebra crossing, has been ordered to perform 240 hours of unpaid work and disqualified from driving for 40 months.

The phrase "unduly lenient" springs to mind.

Lets hope he never gets a licence again. I wonder if there is an appeals process for applicants to the Hackney Licence Authority by the public when someone applies for a licence?

Does this, plus the Audrey Fyfe verdict, suggest the courts are taking the view that an OAP is worth less than a younger person?

This driver will be back driving in 2.5 years - yet is incapable of seeing someone half way across a zebra crossing.

Maybe, when his ban is over, he'll get a job as a Lothian buses driver.

(See my story in the "bad driver" section last Saturday.)

Claims he will never drive a taxi again but no info on other vehicles.
