    Hello,

someone at work just posted this - (the post says 27" which can't be right - I suspect 22) - I would love it as I had one just like it years ago which got nicked but can't justify the space.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll pass on the details - he only wants £30 for it.

    Bargain!

    Looks like it should work.

Not particularly wide range of gears, but alloy wheels, mudguards AND 531 forks which will take the edge off Edinburgh's wonderful road surfaces.

The 27" will be the wheels, which could be replaced sometime with 700c - with clearance for fatter tyres (might need longer drop brakes).

thanks chdot - you are right of course - I will try and find out the actually size… I wondered if the forks were 501? If they are 531 does that mean the frame is too do you think...

I'm desperately trying not to buy it myself….

    No

Holdsworth (CB was one of their brands) made a feature of 531 forks (only) on cheaper models.

    Thanks - good knowledge!

I just went to look at the bike - the forks are indeed 531 - nothing to suggest 531 on the frame. There is a bit of rust on the frame, particularly on the dropout and a bit around the fork crowns. On the seat stays you see there is some insulating tape which I took off to reveal more significant rust - and possibly an old crack that has been welded, although I'm not sure. If it is a weld it's very neat indeed - I imagine there was some sort of clamp fixture there - bike seat?

The bike is in a very useable state I'd say - newish bottom bracket and headset feels fine. Chain and sprockets don't seem to worn to me - wheels reasonably true. I would guess this is actually 21" - alas it's too small for me… really nice bike though. Had it been a bit bigger I would have considered this frame for a minimal single speed...

Judging by the size of the headset, I would say the frame is 23"

you may be right but it feels pretty small for a 23"
