Scottish cycling budget shenanigans

John Swinney is at it again: claiming 'additional' cash for cycling infrastructure, when in fact 2015/16 budget looks like a £4 million to £14 million cut compared to 2014/15. Meanwhile the trunk roads budget increases by £55 million...

Spokes have the skinny on this (what would we do without them?):

Write to your MSP(s) and tell them how disappointed you are about this!

Excellent work from SPOKES, as ever.

Instead of (or in addition to) writing to your MSP - why not write to the Parliament's Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee. They will be responsible for scrutinising the transport budget in detail. Details of how to do so are here:

    Cycling casualties.

Might be worth pointing out the deadly or at least painful consequences of not investing in cycling infrastructure from Morningsider's other thread.

The budget does sound quite small for cycling.

Scotland gets the benefit of increased cycling spend. Reduced NHS costs, reduced public transport costs, yet westminster gets the loss, the reduced fuel duty, and "tax disk".
