Sounds like the contingency planning has room for improvement.

"Other trams forced to stop at Shandwick Place caused congestion, with one blocking the junction with Torphichen Street."

A tram blocking the junction, could not organize a reverse.

cleared from the scene after around 15 minutes.

    Wow. 15 minutes! Chaos!

Cycling home Roseburn - Haymarket - Melville Street - Charlotte Square - George Street about 515ish I can't say that there was still any chaos going on 2 hours after the wee scrape.

Ultimate that one - Lothian Bus scrapes Lothian Tram

Note how narrow that bus lane is though. 3 metres? A bus is 2.55 over body and typically 2.7-2.8 over mirrors.

That's 3 strikes on the same stretch 2 in just 100m of Atholl Place.

Should have put trams under Princes Street like all major European Cities have done/are planning for city centre routes. Based on Scotland Street Tunnel construction records I'd expect that subgrade is largely alluvial deposit around a possible basalt plug or dyke at the Western end.

As ORR is not regulator for Trams in Scotland none of the incidents has been investigated by RAIB. As yet we have not had one of these. https://aib-cms.co.uk/sites/raib/cms_resources/090107_B012009_Croydon_v2.pdf

Note that this was not a full investigation and thus lacks the usual detail for a report.

It isn't clear who will investigate - HSC could do a report as incidents on Edinburgh Tram premises are technically covered by HSAWA and RIDDOR, and premises are tram tracks + 18" beyond outer rail faces. Rest is carriageway and CEC.

    As a regular Edinburgh Evening News website commenter, I demand that;

all trams must wear number plates
    all trams must have insurance
all trams must pay what my gran called "road tax"
all trams must have a working speedometer
all trams must be restricted to less than 8MPH
all trams must not ride on the pavement
all trams must not undertake vehicles at crossings
all trams must not jump red lights

Wait. Did I say "trams"? I meant to say "bicycles"...

If the trams wore a polystyrene suit, this wouldn't have happened.

Can we have a little man with a red flag walking in front of them?

Its a shame the one benefit trams could offer to cyling would be allowing bikes on, sadly I dont think they do.

I think there is an initial six month ban after which there is going to be a trial of bike carrying?

Six months is less than six weeks away (if you know what I mean). Anything been said/heard about bike carriage?
