Anyone noticed the artistic graffiti in the innocent tunnel? Can't see much on the way down but plenty of time to look on the way up! There's an octopus type thing which reminds me of a Beatles song and little footprints on the path, love it

    I'd like to be
    Under the sea
    Inan octopus's garden?

The greatest Beatles song ever that was sung by Ringo

The art is good, been mentioned in passing but mostly we are rightly obsessed with the pig's head and the raves. Leading to broken glass.

I'm afraid my take on graffiti, artistic or otherwise, in the Innocent Tunnel is unchanged from last time. It's nothing more than vandalism of an historic structure.

I really like it, brightens things up. Would be good if something could be officially commissioned though.

@gembo yes that's the one! Those lines stick in my head every time I go past, love the song too but only remember that line lol.

I'm with Arellcat on this. It's an historic structure of some heritage value, note and quality of construction and an important part in Edinburgh's industrial and railway past. It should be accorded likewise respect.

It's a tunnel, it's dark and damp by its very nature. If it needs brightening up to make it more user friendly, then this should be done properly, not in a way that damages the fabric.

LED lighting like on Calton Road/Waterloo Place under-over-bridge-pass might be nice. Knowing CEC though they'll probably install little solar lights like on the canal...

Other stone structures ill-suited for use as the substrate for spraycanning are available:

When they closed the Innocent for two days in July (2020)... for removing graffiti... was it just for some very specific bits of specifically offensive graffiti? It was definitely shut for a couple of days and I saw a relevant looking van rolling out of it one day, but I went through it last week for the first time since July and it was still almost solidly painted all the way along both sides.

Seems so. I went through a day or two after it was closed and couldn't spot anything different.

The local residents assoc is mostly concerned about "graffito" which encourages "drug related gang crime"

Not sure what that looks like.

Yeah, was wondering what the situation was with this. I think there were a few weird/ jokey things like 'don't stay in school do drugs' which may have been removed but thankfully almost everything seems to have stayed. It's annoying when they're spraying as there's not a lot of ventilation in there, but I love seeing it evolve over time through there. Keeps the commute interesting.
