    today was the Leuchars airshow

A popular event by all accounts, more so than the Pope perhaps.

I was heartily amused by the tails of the inevitable traffic jams this caused on the small A-roads of East fife (where there's nothing wider than 1 lane each way for miles around)

However, one man from Dunblane said he had given up after being stuck in a traffic jam for four hours.

"If anything it was worse than last year," he said.

Another man, Colin Ireland, said: "I left Alloa to attend the airshow at RAF Leuchars at 8am this morning.

"By 12.30pm, I was still west of Cupar in a tailback lasting about 8-10 miles, having been stopped for over three hours. I gave up in disgust and disappointment and turned about and went home.

"Obviously the arrangements made for the traffic going to Leuchars were totally inadequate, as were the car parking arrangements, as one of the car parks was put out of use because of flooding."

Another reader, Victoria Aitcheson, told the BBC Scotland news website: "After paying £84 to go and over four hours waiting I decided to turn back and head home. It was a total disgrace and should have been better planned."

Rather than giving air time to belly-aching motorists to indulge their sense of victimisation, what the article should have said was "those arriving by bus, train and bicycle had a wonderful and enjoyable day oot!"

Yes, we got straight in by train and straight back out again. Well, had about 15 mins wait for a train to go back home again but can't complain! Even got a seat both ways. Did notice that crowds were well down on previous years though. Saw a conference bike but didn't manage to get a photo sadly.

Gosh, the photo on the BBC website is rubbish. I got better ones with my compact.

Cycled to Leuchars last April with a friend, apart from the nasty conurbation in the middle i can heartily recommend it as a beautiful ride :)

going again at the end of the month actually....

I just came to post about my account of the queue outside The Bike Station on Saturday and thought I'd found a fellow victim!

Apparently they were very short of staff. They did remain open an extra half an hour though to give people a chance to complete their fix your own bike sessions. Everyone (including myself) seemed to be intend on removing and/or installing bottom brackets and headsets.

The queue at the Bike Station Saturday sale is always long. If you're in the market for a second hand bike, although the sale opens at 10:30am, it's best to get there around 9:30am - with a cup of coffee and a newspaper in tow.

In the coming weeks it may get busier with students returning to/starting university, so yes, do get there early!
