In July I cycled 1320km round Scotland on an Audax ride. 1300km within 108 hours. The Adventure Show filmed a few of us and it will be shown on Tuesday 9th December at 7pm on BBC2 Scotland. You can see a clip of the show here:

Will definitely be watching. The Adventure show is one of the few things that is always worth watching.

Adventure Show is the TV show I'm most likely to recognise people I know,

In the Highland Cross episode I recognised one of the guys interviewed from the bike rack at work (Old Green Singlespeed, with a childseat on the back) cycles along the canal.

And an old flat mate of mine came third in the completely mental Celtman Extreme Triathlon!

So looking forward to the next one.

It's great that they have Cameron doing the presenting honours. Looks like a classic bit of telly: will certainly be watching!

Cameron was on holiday with his grand children when the ride took place. He doesn't present unless he has subsiquently gone round some of the riders filmed and interviewed them. More likely he is just the voice over guy.

Should attract an even bigger group next year. Well done DaveC!

Tim from Blairgowrie has been on the show before (no saddle as he's on a 'bent) Must have given this one a miss. Dave will have inside story no doubt.
Arvid is another guy that did the Mille Alba in LB style.

    Weather looked like hi-frazzle factor.

Tim does have a saddle, as I have seen his new shiney carbon Bacchetta recumbent! Its just not one of the Brooks variety where you get

Really impressive Dave. Looked a superb route. Maybe over 10 days though.

@shugglet, there is an option to do it as a series of Brevet Populaire audaxes I believe. So you can ride it in short stages over 10 days...

    Loved that. Looked amazing.

How many riders were there in total?

Great show. I can't even begin to imagine cycling that far.

Saw a lot of stunning scenery which makes me want to cycle there next summer, although at a gentler pace!

Also a saw a little too much of one participant! What has been seen cannot be unseen.....

@srd said thirty on the show. Some of the chaps did not appear on camera?

Liked it. Boyfriend enjoyed it too. Lots of very pretty photographs of Scotland.

It was a shame there were no women - but in my (limited) experience that level of female participation is typical of Audax!

I'd like to do some more Audaxing - but cycling while sleep-deprived worries me, so I don't see myself going further than 300km. I guess that's a whole different thread, though...

@fimm yeah, that was minisrd's question too "are ladies allowed to do it". Followed by "maybe when I'm big I'd like to do one".

    Yes please.

Women in Audax? Sleep and distance?

    Or both?

    So Dave, a few questions.

    Did anyone not finish?

If you were doing it again, what would you do differently?

Seemed the ferry timetables in the first couple of days would have hampered those who wanted to get some miles in the bank early on and put a lot of pressure on the latter stages.

Yep. I chatted to a couple of riders from N England who were binning it at Ullapool. They said they had underestimated the ride and had too much gear. There were no where near a train station and were planing on taking a slower ride back from Ullapool to Saltcoats for the Arrivee.

When I waved at the camera, 'I'm not waving, I'm drowning (in sweat) - I was it was very hot, the guy in the Green and Red (Welsh 1300km Audax top) booked into the hostle at Durness intending to get 3 hours sleep, but when he got up, just sacked it and made his own way home.

One of the Dutch pair binned it too. I saw one finish, and his mate met us when we arrived looking fresh and dressed in 'civies'. He told us in the Bar that he had not finished.

Thats just the ones I spoke to and caught up with at the end.

    What would I do differently?

I think I'd get a better rear wheel and take less food packed in my bag. I had no problems finding food and water at any time, and I bought a couple of bags of mixed Fruit & Nut and just munched constantly on the ride. This staved off hunger and I just ate pies and sandwiches when we passed Scotmid shops etc.. We didn't stay for any nice meals out like those at the front did. It was very cold at 4am and I'd take leg warmers instead of Ronhills and perhaps thin down my spares. I tend to carry 2 - 3 of everything and nuts and bolts etc... Stuff I never needed. I carried waterproofs and only used the top on the Weds night (when I was talking about the micronap on the bike), but I'd take them again.

If I'd faffed a little less at times (like having a 40 minute paruse of Coop in the Kyle of Lochalsh and not had to stop for mechanicals like replacing spokes etc.. then I'd have been early enough for my accomodation on all days.
