How can a driving licence improve health?

This is Australia, not here. Aboriginals, not colonials.

The health effects? In summary: Less likely to die on the roads; Less likely their lives will "spiral out of control" due to unlicensed driving penalties; And: "It definitely makes you feel a lot better. It keeps you out of depression," apparently; Er, that's it (Ed.).

So, I think what we're talking about here is "tackling social exclusion": in a society where nearly everyone drives, non-drivers are the "losers".

Pass the painkillers, the blinkered world view of this article has given me a headache!

In remote communities, with long distances between population centres, I can see that a car is a pretty essential tool. My parents live up in the western highlands and without a car they would be housebound or dependent on car-using neighbours or taxis. No buses along their road.

Sure, I can see that too. What I find disturbing is the euphoric tone of the article, as though driving solves all these social problems at a stroke.

Talk about missing the bigger picture...

Missing the bigger picture? Hasn't that been written into the BBC charter since in lurched to the right after the BBC Trust was taken over by the Tory Party?
