Stop Climate Chaos Scotland has said a cut in APD could lead to a rise in climate emissions of up to 60,000 tonnes of CO2.

The environmental group's chairman, Mike Robinson, said: "This is about fairness. Why allow one industry to not be taxed when you tax every other industry?

"And it is one we should not necessarily be trying to advance instead of train travel or more sustainable forms of transport."

A truly astonishing document - this is an actual quote:

"3.18 Studies commissioned by the aviation industry have found that reducing or abolishing UK APD could have a net economic benefit in terms of economic growth, job creation and increased overall tax receipts. In Scotland, an Edinburgh Airport study of March 2015 found that, if APD was reduced by 50% in 2015, by 2020 it would have created up to 3,800 extra jobs and added £200 million per annum in Gross Value Added for the Scottish economy. The same study estimates that a 50% reduction in APD in 2015 would result in 0.9 million additional passengers through Scotland‟s airports by 2020."

So, that's all right then - the aviation industry says it will all be fine. No need for any of that independent analysis, or to worry about that £150,000,000 a year in lost tax revenue.

Are people really not visiting Scotland because of Airport Passenger Duty? Really?

Probably some, but maybe more to do with residents?

Can't let the future of the planet get in the way of voters' holidays (or 'glamour' industry profits).

Which Government used to be keen on "sustainable growth"(?)

There was something on this on the Radio Scotland news this morning, with someone - Keith Brown I think - countering the extra pollution point by talking about direct flights and more efficient planes...

I'd it really is going to increase the net tax take then they really should use a good chunk of it on active travel to mitigate the impact.
