    Appointed today by Jim Murphy, Mary Fee has recently been asking questions -

    In June 2013, an updated version of the cycling action plan for Scotland was published. That included the shared vision for 10 per cent of everyday trips to be taken by bike by 2020. Are we on track to meet the target?

    Keith says: "...we had the first cycling summit last year, and I decided to cycle there—it was 17 miles and I have just about recovered."

    I realise it was meant as a self-deprecating joke but ...

    In other news I see PoP tweeting about a government-initiated debate on Active Travel timetabled for 7 January. I'm tempted to try to pull together a briefing for MSPs, largely comprising sticks with which the Government can be beaten. Just to encourage them to commit some of their Barnet consequentials on active travel.

    Tactically, it would make sense to focus on areas

    * where the Scottish Government has powers to act
    * that fit with their agenda - social justice, public health (physical activity, obesity, mental health)
    * savings, preventative spending.

    Any contributions welcome. And any advice on how to get it to MSPs.

    "And any advice on how to get it to MSPs."

    Usual ways - individual emails and/or a posted paper document.

    PLUS - presume you will publish somewhere as a PDF, so individuals will be able to email all their MSPs and 'hope you have read this and will take part in debate'.

    This can be facilitated via Twitter, also people/members known to Spokes, PoP, TransformScotland, CTC etc.

    Sure. I'll stick it in Dropbox and tweet a link. Plus I know some people who would also tweet relevant info. Like it wasn't coordinated at all.

    Of course this is the 'worst' time of year to pull stuff together and the 7th is a bit early...

    However press/media short of 'news' around New Year, so...

    Och, this is stuff I have lying around and it's kind of motivating to think that it's scheduled for 7 Jan for precisely that reason. They know they're weak but think they might get an easy ride because everyone else is too busy having a holiday.

    Thanks to the system employed at Holyrood, other "Shadows" (i.e. opposition spokespersons) are available in differing hues of blue.
