On that basis most roads (as opposed to streets) were desire lines.

The Romans had many desires

Desire paths: the illicit trails that defy the urban planners
“
Well no actually.
Planners unwilling to facilitate reasonable reality.

Unfortunately many of these desire lines will only show on grassy verges and the like...
I wonder if, using funky timelapse footage of road junctions, you could show desire lines of where people actually want to cross.

And the desire-lines of how people cross the vast car parks out at places like Hermiston Gait

Did they not do something like that in the George St consultants' report?

I'm sure I've seen something like that from London. Something to do with Bank Junction, perhaps...Posted 6 years ago # -

That video is very funny...

Also the hamster does exit by the exit door despite climbing all over the walls of the maze.

The hamster wouldn't get a very good score on the LSRP. Cheat.

@wingpig, clearly psychopathic that little Hammy

" The Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy scale [is] a test of sociopathy... The LSRP was developed in 1995 for use in psychological research. It measures on two scales: primary psychopathy (psychopathic emotional affect) and secondary psychopathy (psychopathic lifestyle)."
From here. I've no idea if that is a good source or not.

@fimm
It says:
"Most people will will complete the test in five minutes or so."Is having two 'wills' part of the test? :-)

Not just caused by the narrowness of the bridge behind you and the busyness of the road. There's also no simple way to get over the Brig if you are starting on that side of the road.

Context?

Do we need context? The desire line in chdot's picture is located here: https://www.google.com/maps/@55.9636775,-3.315676,3a,15y,125.59h,82.98t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1see3ODCXkkyVyDd82TC05sA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Actually it's really frustrating seeing images with no context and then trying to work out where they are. No wonder people are leaving this forum in droves.
You know. Is this something near my house that I need to write to my councillor about? Or is it something down in London that I can safely ignore? I literally have NO IDEA

@neddie, I presume you're being ironic?
(Or maybe not...)

What's with the hoo-ha beef. Awful lot of beefs this last week or two

@ejstubbs - If you copy and paste the whole of acsimpson's link (including the bit after the equals sign), it works. The exclamation points in the url breaks the automatically-turn-this-into-a-hyperlink process, unfortunately.

Um
Context
Well
Due to the erratic nature of my Flickr Uploadr app, it can takes months (literally) for some photos to appear on my Flickr timeline!
The actual photo was indeed taken at Barnton, but - without context - merely serves as an illustration.
The reason it was taken was because I had decided to see what sort of route I could take without shooting down the hill to the bridge over the Almond, then up the steep hill and on towards DMains.
So, pavement (not shared use) room for ‘better’ but probably not worth doing anything about. PLENTY room for proper on-road segregation…

Ah yes, all my fault.
Personal choice.

Context

Location immaterial
Purpose
To illustrate a simple (if inelegant) way of removing/improving a muddy desire line.
Or perhaps creating a useful/sensible route?

@ejstubbs, sorry for the dodgy link.
@Frenchy, Thanks for the explanation. I thought I was going mad as the link I copied and pasted was exactly what ejstubbs posted. I just forgot to use the link builder.
