Think today was the first day I've felt the urge to use both lights and longs on the commute in. Does this mean the start of Autumn proper?

Not so bothered by the whole prospect, quite like the cosiness of winter cycling kit :) And as for the hot shower/coffee when you get in, makes even the fiercest soaking/headwind worth it.

Am ill today and got the bus in - but yesterday I was out and had the warmers on for the first time!

There have been a few days where I wanted the death lights already. Man, I really can't be bothered with winter this year :(

That couple of weeks before the clocks 'fall back' on October 31 can be a bit of a challenge in the morning, but by gum do you feel it in the evenings after the clocks change.

Yup, it was a lights and tights day for me too this morning. In fact it was the first day I've had my t-shirt and longsleeved t-shirt on together, under my fleece. The weather said it wasn't going to rain, so I didn't wear (or bring) my waterproof.

long sleeved gore jersey and a merino vest today, but still valiantly flying the flag for lycra shorts! That said I had a secret weapon in a large portion of home-made chicken broth in the pannier.

Clear eye defenders, HH semi-merino l/s base layer and Endura winter hi-viz today; been picking birch leaves out of the various mechs for days now! Finishing last on the XBorder100 was a definite taster for winter lights, steel rain and the rigours of potholes in the dark! O sole mio!

Cycled to and from the pictures last night in zipped off Craghoppers. I had a checkered shirt on when I was coming home around 2200 hrs.

SON generator, Edelux and B&M Stanlicht.

I put a Reelight on the back of my Pashley this morning. I wouldn't have had to bother if they had run the back light off the hub.

Me too. Warm long sleeved top as well. Still cold at lunchtime too, during my second batch of waiting at Princes Street to turn onto North Bridge today I could see my breath!

Folds - dynamo on the Pash just for front light that is gash

We are in that in-between phase - last week I had two panniers as took major wet weather kit on the thurs morn - got soaked at least twice.

next day back to shorts. Had lights on tonight tho.

Mark - any Knog Frogs or wee lights to fit elsewherein your crazy deal so I can light up like a Xmas tree, might brave it down to Rodney street on Fri. if this is the case

Their website has really good descriptions of the different lights and which are good for what. That said, I am a devotee of the Knogs too.

Batavus do the same front light only from the generator trick. It saves them a few pennies on parts and they don't need to run a cable to the back light.

The Brompton I went to the pictures on last night has back and front lights driven by the SON which is set for Senso so you can just ignore it and let it do its stuff.

That's decadent. Although I do know of the set up to which you refer ;-)

No, no, not decadent at all. When the Edelux turns on it gets 5% harder to pedal.

My Blackburn Voyager 3.3 and Mars 3.0 just got a wipedown and a new set of batteries and they're as bright as ever. Actually forgot just how bright they were.

Just enough to spot the potholes/huge rocks doon on granton foreshore. Although probably only at steel commuter speed. :)

    Posted 13 years ago #
  23. Mel's Voyager died on me the winter before last - probably an older version though? True enough, the Mars 3.0 is a bright light - I wonder if I can find the mount and nick that....

druidh - yes I bought a wee smart light from you last winter very cheap and very bright, sits atop my H-word proturberance like a wee belisha beacon, I even sent the guy who used to 'take me at Gillespies to you to get one, he was so taken with them

These are very good. I have a big heavy light on my h-thing, but the rest of the family has the wee ones. Very good for kids helmets as they're so light.

rtc - winterbiblongs -Last winter I bought a stonking pair from, where was it again, oh yeah The Bike Chain - Gore about £65 but very toasty and quite quick drying. They say (Gore) that the pad gets better the more you wear them but I believe this to be phooey

srd - with all these wee lights, best to by the CRO32 batteries off tinternet as very cheap

hmm, took gloves off tonight on the way home as it was so warm. this was good.

What wasn't good was then hearing my Cherry Bomb (which i thought i had lost but found today in my gore jacket pocket!) jump off my poor mounting on a pannier strap.

Then what was worse was hearing an Astra crunch it into the road...

Lucky the Petzl was on the back of the Tubus for emergencys!

Anyway, this is irrelevant. One of those rides home tonight that got the grey matter in motion. Weird day of mixed emotions...
