  1. The third round of the Scottish BMX National Series will be taking place in Musselburgh on Sunday April 26th. The track is fab, and should give some great racing. It should start about 11 or midday (I'll post once confirmed), and I reckon it'd be a great way to spend a couple of Sunday hours (and would be a blast for kids).

I'll be there yellow-vested to take photos and write about it for Scottish Cycling.

    Hi

Unfortunately this race has moved venue, the club has tried hard to make this race happen but due to a lack of essential equipment we had no opinion but to seek another venue.

The race will know take place in Clydebank, home of the Western Titans.

Musselburgh will still run the race and will continue to look at solutions to our equipment issues.

That's a pity, was intending to come.

  4. Real shame, the course is looking great. I think the venue was going to be hosting a later round as well - aiming to resolve issues by then? Also, if there are equipment issues, this is one place where solutions may be found or suggested!

It is predominantly a financial issue, we don't have a start system (about £1500) and the first 2 berms really need to bbe bigger from a safety point of view.

We haven't been able to convince the council to upgrade these, it's a shame,a few tonne of soil and a JCB, a couple of days work would make such a difference.

Applying for funding takes time, although we're scheduled to hold another 2 races in the series, you never know what can happen...

Used to have a friendly plant hire guy who did Sustrans stuff in East, lived in Musselburgh - why not make story in local press, could find local operator.

For Clydebank there are through trains from Waverley would you expect many to travel on 26th?

  9. As it's part of the Scottish Series I suspect those competing would travel whatever - maybe not as many spectators from Musselburgh itself, but likely boosted by folk from near Clydebank. I'll still be heading along in snapper guise - must get in touch with the folk whose names I've been given.

I've been to the Clydebank track once before - I thought it was just a few years back, turns out it was a lifetime ago, 11 years. Where does it go?

Start system is difficult; berms I was wondering if it could be achieved with a team of MTB-like trail fairies, but they are much bigger berms. Hmmmm. Would love to see this happening here after first stumbling across the track a few years back in total disrepair - the work and the effort that must have gone into bringing it up to the standard it is now are truly to be applauded.

  12. Nice day out in Clydebank yesterday, and made the acquaintance of mussbmx. I hadn't realised just how close the train station is to the track...

Had a couple of hail storms pass over, but overall the sun was out, and the breeze was stiff. The racing was good and fast once it got going, and some of the jumps these guys can make, tweaking the shape in the air to avoid slamming the rear wheel down, is astonishing. As impressive are the manuals they can pull at speed to maintain their pace over the rollers.

Had a couple of good chats with folk, including the aforementioned mussbmx (I may be in touch about an idea I've had for an article on the future of BMX in Scotland), finding out that mid-May Cumbernauld will be hosting two rounds of the British Series, and that a big, new venue is planned a couple of miles from Clydebank which will host the 2018 European Championships.

Great to see so many kids hitting the track, and having a whale if a time on endless practice runs, but also messing about on the track after racing had finished.

And just a reminder that there are still no BMX tracks in Edinburgh.

I presume there is still the possibility of one at Hunters Hall Park (behind Jack Kane Centre), but Edinburgh should have at least a couple if the sport is to have any chance of taking off (again) here.

Chris Hoy started racing with BMX then track because the Meadowbank Velodrome existed.

Currently no BMX race tracks and Meadowbank won't last for ever.

It would be good to have a BMX race track close to the skateboard park at Saughton (possibly right next to it). There's also lots of land at Broomhouse next to the tram line. Might fit one in at Carrick Knowe golf course - especially if it closes.

It was nice to meet you and a excellent report from the day, thanks

A BMX Track was in the Hunters hall plans but we haven't been able to find out anything about it.

Here a link to a map of tracks and pump tracks in the UK, it isn't that surprising bmx is struggling for numbers!

    Build it, they will come...

A map like that can never be complete, but Edinburgh is supposed to have at least three.

Is there an accepted definition of pump track.
