Could this statistic simply show that Edinburgh has too many rich people who don't care about £60 if it means they get to park where they want for the day?

If pavement parking become a ticketable offence then I hope we'll see this figure double.

There is certainly someone in rutland square who parks and gets a ticket almost everyday. Sure that sort of ting drives it up. Also a LOT of people out and about yesterday who clearly didn't realise that the parking attendants were working yesterday! Almost every second car on Kinds stables road was ticketed.

ARobComp: Every Bank Holiday, without fail, the bus lanes along St John's Road are occupied by zoo visitors. And every Bank Holiday, without fail, the parking officers arrive at 3.59pm to start doling out tickets. Must have been about twenty cars with tickets yesterday.

I suspect all it shows is that Glasgow has more NCP or other privately run facilities than Edinburgh.

Also, how do we know the Edinburgh 'profit' is half the national total? The figures quoted are confusing: total revenue does not necessarily mean surplus over expenditure or 'profit'.

The fact that Edinburgh's revenue from parking charges equals half the surplus/profit for Scotland is, while interesting, not quite what the headline says. Intentionally misleading?

The BBC article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-32870997) seems to suggest that it is half the profit as well as half the income.

With it only issuing a third of the penalty notices I agree with Arellcat that some of the difference is likely attributed to the number of on street vs private spaces.
