    There's a post elsewhere which says -

"I've come to the conclusion that after twenty years of Edinburgh cycle commuting I probably know half of you by sight. Especially those of you active around the Meadows on recumbents. I wonder if the chap who heads East round the Meadows on a yellow recumbent with a great big fixed grin each morning around 08h45 is in here?"

    http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=1482

There's also the Min/TBC meet that has happened 2 days running.

I wonder if CCE members who passed that way - say between 8 and 9 - stopped in the middle of the Compass for (say) 2 minutes would meet other CCE members(?)

I don't. But I could... I'd wager if I stopped in the middle of the compass I'd get terribly in the way of cyclists going up / down / across MMW though!

Maybe I'll stand at the side with a big grin on my face too?

You're probably right - especially if others stopped too!

Perhaps lean on the Sustrans sign with -

If I squint my eyes I see a dolphin or a dinosaur, right?

sounds good to me! (assuming I'm allowed to join despite being temporarily off-bike - am still doing gentle rides on weekends, but not commuting).

    "assuming I'm allowed to join"

Without wishing to appear patronising, I think you are one of the people who have demonstrated the value of this forum.

You 'arrived' as a slightly nervous (but determined) 'utility' cyclist who was unsure about the wisdom of cycling through the 'severe' winter - particularly the snow - (and to some extent your ability to do it).

I think the support/advice of other members made you more determined.

Since then you have discovered that Chris Hoy worked in your old house (when it was a bike shop) and explained why its location discouraged you from cycling to work due to roads/traffic.

You have told us about the joys and downsides of cycling with a passenger - in a childseat.

Plus the report of the epic trip to Peebles in a gale with child and trailer. Etc.

Eligibility to post on this forum (or meet members for breakfast) doesn't depend on cycling every day!

Awww. thanks. Glad my contributions appreciated, as I have definitely benefited from the advice & support on offer.

"I have definitely benefited from the advice & support on offer"

I'm sure you are not alone.

I think that one of the things that pleases me most is that (most) people on the forum are 'normal' in that they are also car and bus users who choose to cycle.

    OK so not normal...

I mean - not a bunch of deviants outside 'normal car owning society'. Which makes it more frustrating see the extent to which provision for cyclists (and pedestrians) remains at the bottom of transport policy BUT also encouraging that non/lapsed 'cyclists' are willing to brave the realities of the road because it's cheaper/faster/healthier/fun etc.

As I said yesterday perhaps letters to politicians, papers etc. should start "I'm a motorist but..."

Anyone want to start a new topic?

+1 to that idea. Also a prime location for bike spotting.

    *waves* HI :)

Was wondering where to point out I have never owned a car, or a license. Im an ex-courier (hence the interest in city cycling) and go to everything within 150 miles by bike :)

"I use MMW every morning between 8 and 9"

Do you cycle up and down for an hour?

You'd need coffee to do that...

That sounds nice but it's a bit too out of my way. Perhaps I could persuade the guy with the bent nail/chair leg, the guy who fell asleep in the cycle path and the guy with the air gun to get together for coffee. I'm sure they'd hit it off, discussing the funny things they see on NCR1 like the worried looking cyclists and the kids trying to sell puppies.

"Do you cycle up and down for an hour?"

Some mornings it feels like it takes me an hour to get from the compass up to Forrest Road!

Morning of Wednesday 27th October might be pertinent?

"Morning of Wednesday 27th October might be pertinent?"

Aye - though some people might not able to wait that long...

Not been to PY at that time of day, but later on can be busy with slow service.

Maybe they need a txt 2 ordr facility - "latte in 4 1/2 mins pls" sort of thing.

They probably need a cycle thru window too.

The juice bar with the pashley trike is certainly cycle-friendly.

'mollie, Bucky and Methadone meet on the same day under a bridge somewhere north of Princes St? :) I can probably find a bottle of either next time I clear out my back garden. :-/

Stepdoh, there are places in Edinburgh that do feel a very long way from a juice bar.

Mmmm, like energy drink. Maybe there's a gap in the market for Buckfast flavoured High 5.

Given your apparent propensity for attracting nutbags on cycle paths, we might be safer without you anyway. ;-)

They probably need a cycle thru window too.

You can't just have CYCLE Thru, you need CYCLE In and CYCLE Out ports doors too. Maybe PY needs to update its signage. :>

Peter's Yard now has a takeaway shop in a separate building behind their sit-in place. It's usually much quicker to get your coffee there (and I'd like to think they wouldn't take offence if you then proceeded to sit at their outdoor tables).
