I can confirm there were three police officers very visibly patrolling Abbey Street this morning. Delighted that the temporary ban seems to be working well.

Could this be used for the no drive areas?

Next round of schools to get street closures: Bonaly, St Peter’s, Clermiston and Towerbank.

    More information, via Portobello CC.

The St Peter's one takes out a well-used back entrance to Waitrose. It'll be an interesting one to enforce! (I just hope it is enforced after the initial hoo-haa period)

I was speaking to one of the school committee members who helped introduce this in Haddington. She said the Council had raised an objection, asking what proof there was that this would work. She had countered by asking where their proof was that it wouldn't. It seems to be a success. However there are a few driving hold-outs who refuse to be stopped from using their cars and who get very stroppy when confronted by other parents. The other issue apparently is that school staff who have permits to park near the school do just that, undermining the exercise.

what proof there was that this would work

So, why are you conducting this experiment? Do you have any proof it will work?

That's why I'm conducting the experiment.

St Peter's one seems to include Falcon Lane which I'm sure has a big gate across it. Good luck driving/parking there at any time.

Bonaly one is interesting as it effectively blocks off Torduff and Bonaly Roads (although the latter only as far as the Bonaly Burn).

It does rather look like someone has just clicked the 'fill' tool on the map.

@cb - my guess is there are some streets that shouldn't really need to be closed under the scheme, but can only be accessed by driving through streets nearer the school that do need to closed.

The only, or easiest, way for residents of these further away streets to be allowed a permit if for their streets to be included in the scheme.

I'm a resident of a closed street, I'm unconvinced of the need for residents' permits. However many of my neighbours disagree, and I think there would have been strong/terminal opposition to the scheme from local residents without the permits. One neighbour reports he has to drive with one hand constantly pointing at his permit to deflect the angry looks from parents.

  11. Police are now seeking assistance in identifying a motorist who had entered Hamilton Drive illegally yesterday, then "sped" off when officers approached.

Hopefully their search will be fruitful.

  13. An email from the school, unfortunately titled "Road incident involving Kirsty" (Kirsty wasn't involved.)

it was 3:10 yesterday, a silver car. Apparently it "endagered" the policeman

  14. Endangered - my bad spelling, not the school's

They guilty of frightening the life out of parents though, so I won't apologise for it.

    @Bikeability -
    Thanks, found it in <sodding>ParentMail</sodding>.

You're right about the alarming subject though, glad I knew what is was before seeing it.

Parent mail is a pain. Might be worth pointing out to school what it looked like after sending? they may have no idea?

Police at St. Johns in Porty/Duddinsgton this morning. Reports from a neighbour that at least one four FPs were dished out.

Related, there's a TRO out updating DYLs and waiting/loading restrictions around the schools.
