ERC are again running the Edinburgh velodrome. This is a steeply banked track, identical to the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow.
We are keen to enable as many people as possible to ride there (no closing date has been announced).
If you wish to ride the track, check out the website below to make a booking or request. There are taster and improver sessions being run. Gather a group of friends and we can arrange a taster session at your convenience. £10 for 1 hour including bike hire.

    Welcome phild

"identical to the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow"

    I think that's pushing it a bit!!

Great that ERC are running this AND 'opening to all'.

There WILL be takers from CCE.

Count me in for the 18th July taster session (assuming no prior commitments that I haven't written down in my diary).

    Anyone else?

  5. Right, CCErs, who wants to organise a Taster Session? I've wanted to try this for ages, would seem daft not to... Happy to coordinate dates and sort out gathering payment and so on.

@WC, if you're willing to be an organiser I'm very happy! As mentioned I'm keen to try it out on 18 July if they're running a session anyway.

  8. 18th July I definitely can't do - so I'll probably be looking to get the numbers to justify trying to arrange another time (unless all go to the 18th in which case I'll go along to a different one as Billy no mates ;) ).

    @WC

Let them try the taster, then they will 'demand' to join your private session!

there are small bikes (some smaller Islabikes), but probably 8 yr old plus. Not sure phild will be able handle adults and kids at a single taster session, but he is multi-talented..

If you want to ride on 18th, book on line and it will reserve a place for you. We have a limit of 12 per session. We would run separate sessions for the adults and the younger riders. (Shuggie is wrong, I'm certainly not multi-talented)

@WC Definitely in. I'd still be interested to try the Hoyodrome sometime, but this place is far easier to get to (and easier to get time for).

I'm definitely busy on the 18th of July but also definitely up for joining a session another time. Weekend afternoon's generally suit me best at the moment although I could do some evenings too.

I'd be interested in trying this out, even if it's just to see what falling off a track bike feels like...

I can't do 18 July by virtue of being on holiday, but would like to try another session. Weekday evenings probably slightly easier for me, although daughter could come along at a weekend and cheer me on.

The 11.30am velodrome taster session on 18th July is now full.
There is a second session at 10am on the same day and another scheduled for 10am on Sat 1st August.

I've been ill these last few days and would not have been up to the demands of being a beginner this weekend. Maybe at some future date!

This sounds really fun, I'd love to try it. I doubt the 1st Aug session will work though unfortunately. I know of at least two friends that would be up for it, probably 4 or 5. How many people are required to make a taster session worthwhile running?

I go to the Improvers Sessions on a Monday night and Sunday as I got accredited last year. There are about 7 "regulars" at these, but I've not been to any of the Tasters.

It's great fun, Phil, Ken and John do a great job of skill development with some practice races and sprints thrown in. I'd thoroughly recommend getting along and ride some history before it's pulled down to make way for generic boring flats.
