An associate of mine who has cycled in Edinburgh for the last five years, wanted a change of scene.

"Glasgow cycling is interesting, you're happily cycling down a town street like Lothian Road, when without notice it turns into a dual carriageway with your lane feeding into a motorway, so suddenly everything is at 60, you're going up hill and have to change two lanes.... hmm.

Nice path along the river into town from me (I'm in Partick)."

...the post was quickly criticised, including by Martin Lennon, a Scottish Labour councillor for Rutherglen.

“This is a very bad line. What Glasgow (and Rutherglen) needs is fewer cars on the road, and better walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure,” he said.

“Loads to criticise the SNP on but this opportunistic nonsense.”

The SNP’s Glasgow council leader also hit out at the video. Susan Aitken said: “Anas Sarwar is meant to be a Glasgow MSP but you’d be hard pushed to know it.

“Every year, budget consultations tell us Glaswegians would like to see folk from outside the city who use Glasgow’s services make a contribution to their cost. Why is it ok for London but not Glasgow?”
