    Didn't the Incident stats on Raging Bike (back when it was still regularly used) generally concur with that headline's statement?

    A few times over the summer, usually going east to west (but avoiding London Road) around the Abbeyhill/Royal Park Terrace area (or through the park) I made a point of trying to guess which cars were Beemers as they came past me from behind. The success rate for identifying them (based on extreme proximity and rashness of acceleration) seemed noticeably significant.

    Works for taxis and "private hire cars" (badly and aggresively driven, diesel engined, mid-sized saloons). I'll have to start taking more notice of other "cars" as currently I just clock them as "car". Most sensory attention I find is paid to weeding out the white vans, taxis, PHCs and firstbuses from the background clutter.

    Worst (in this case aggressive and antisocial/dangerous) consistent driving im experience and ho (from worst to just appalling;
    Any post office vehicle,
    Edinburgh council refuse lorries,
    "hot" hatchbacks,
    lady business people in BMW/Mondeo/equivalent,
    their male counterparts,
    then females of a certain group in large Mercedes (ask me in person, I don't want to have to explain/start a flame war online!),
    then the rest of the careless/thoughtless/incompetent and arrogant who distract us from the majority of normal, careful, polite drivers who bimble round Edinburgh!

    As with RLJ's and pavement cyclists being the most obvious cycle users, although in the minority, it's not the 100 cars we pass on our commute we remember, it's the one who behaves like an idiot.
    Always worth trying to keep in perspective :-)

    You have omitted u-turning taxis. They are by far the most dangerous vehicles in my experience, especially between North Bridge and Minto Street.

    The hackney cabs are bad enough but at least they can generally make the turn in one thanks to their knock-kneed steering and turning circle. But when the Peugeot / Mercedes people carrier taxis try and emulate this they get all confused when they can't make it and have to pull a 3-pointer.

    Very true. I do not like those Mercedes/Peugeot pseudo taxis. As far as passenger experience goes, they just feel like converted vans - nowhere near the comfort or passenger-friendly design of the proper black cabs. Whenever I have the option I try to boycott them, but that ain't easy in a taxi rank...

    As for the silver saloon private hire cars - they're possibly even worse for the u-turn. At least now they've got a sticker on the door their tendency towards poor driving has been exposed for all to see.

    rudest, well as the driver of a very large 44 ton artic you may think that no one gets in my way ! But ! The new BMWs are now Audis. every pink shirted middle manager with a retail managment OND under his belt is now out there, trying to live the dream. Or the new crysler c200 300 or whatever they are, people who cant afford a bently actually fit bently badges on them ! wow, they have really arrived ! Must admit, driving tests should involve a visit to the local breakers yard to let car, and van drivers see what 44 tons of comercial vehicle will do to a german ,quality built ego massaging company perk !
