New Dynamo Wheel.

I have bought the parts and am starting my fourth wheel build. Its not simple but not too difficult, mainly time consuming.

Shimano DH-3D80 hub, Ambrosio Evolution rim and Double butted spokes (36 of).

I have an existing dynamo (same but Open Sport rim) wheel, that I'm going to use exclusively for commuting. This is going to live on my Audax bike, though its also a disc compatible hub so can be pressed into action on the studded tyre Cotic X in winter if needed.

I'm quite impressed at what we can achieve when we apply ourselves! :O)

Nice! I'm just trying to choose components for a new disc-braked winter commuter, that will include putting up a couple of wheels. I find it quite theraputic in the early stages, then frustrating when you're trying to get them absolutely flawless.

It seemed like I had ages to do this, but the clocks go back in three and a half weeks!

Yes I know what you mean.

I have no problem getting spokes tightened and then wheel true but the rim oft ends up lopsided, where the distance from hub to rim varies making the wheel slightly wonky as you spin it and look down the plane. Then it takes an age to get it near perfect and back to true. Also rear (and front disc) wheels go together easily but then adjusting for the dishing means more faffing. Funnily enough I have never built a wheel which does not have dishing in.

I struggle with dish, the jig I'm using is too basic and when I flip the wheel it never seems to be right. One day I'll get the nice Park one (maybe!)

Nah, mine is a bit of plywood jigsawed onto a bow with one of these taken apart to make a sliding centre point, using an old coachbold and wingnut:
